You can either buy a DVD-Recorder to sit at your TV with your video machine, then plug the video into the DVD Recorder and do it that way,

or, you will need a video capture card in your PC. Then plug the VCR into your capture card, save all of the video on the hard drive, recompress it to DVD and then burn it onto a disc.

Do you know what kind of lead you need to connect vcr and dvd recorder and how expensive they are.

A Scart lead and you should get one for less than a tenner. You will probably get one free with any DVD Recorder that you buy.

SCART can carry various signals, and many of the leads are missing some of the pins for some signals to save costs. make sure you get a scart lead with all the pins. The best signal is "RGB" (sometimes called "component"), then "S-video", then "composite", but many products don't support RGB. Use the best signal that's supported by both the VCR and the DVD recorder.
