Freakfm in Cork got raided yesterday. Comreg decided they were a menace to society and threat to legal stations revenue. Thanks Comreg, the people of Cork really love ye now!

i take it from your sig you're a part of this station. are you sure you're speaking for the people of cork?

if the station is that good, then do a phantom and get yourselves some money and go for a license

yeah, comreg came and took down a popular alternative radio station yesterday. Not everyone has BIG financial backers, also not that much money is needed to run a community low power niche station as we proved over the last 5 years. Zero advertising and it was funded by everyone involved.

Its not donations we need. Its a change in the licensing laws.. there is no hope of a low power alternative station like ours getting legit the way things stand i`m afraid.

Thanks for the support hansel. I don`t know if it will make any difference , but its no harm to show how much people are pissed off by this.

Comreg and all the other places ye emailed won`t know whats goin on when they check their emails tomorrow or monday

Phantom ran ads and had a lot of money coming in. Different story. + it is in Dublin, much bigger audience

so run ads. the first ads phantom had were for local gigs, rehearsal spaces and the such. if you have listners, people running gigs and studios would gladly advertise. also, phantom did an "alternative club" thingy which still goes i believe.

there's no point in moaning about the laws. you broke them. you knew what you were doing... you knew the consiquences.

pick yourselves back up and keep on truckin if you can/want

Nope, We have our own beliefs and we have a right to protest about what we believe in. We decided ads are a bad idea and the station can be run just fine without advertising.

There is no point getting back up and carrying on as before. they will just come back and take more equipment that doesnt belong to them.

What we need is a change in the law to give low power stations the ability to get a licence without raising huge sums of money. All those emails and letter people are sending may make a difference, even if its only a small dent.

I as an honorary Langer would like to speak up on the behalf of Freak Fm - A great station, with great tunes which I listen to regularly as do most of my friends. Will be sorely missed.

community license. i recall Anna-Livia FM runs on one of these licenses on very little money. all their ads seem to promote other shows on the station too

you can't give out about them taking your equipment you broke the law and they are well within their rights - cork like dublin probably should an altenative radio station so start by getting a temp license for 15 weekends and take it from there.

hmmm looks like comreg are using whats left of their budget so it doesnt get cut next year.

Comreg don't ususally get up off their arse though unless they have received a complaint. usually either comes from one of the legal stations. Radio Limerick One have been raided a good seven or eight times in the space of two years, they havent been raided in a while though.

10PM Spoons and Darkmaster + whoever else is around for the closing!

And thats the end of Freakfm, Corks only alternative radio station.
Forced off the air by the BCI and Comreg for providing a music service to Cork city with no funding whatsoever, and broadcasting on free airspace.

Meanwhile, LifeFM have been granted the latest local licence to spread religious preachings over the airwaves of Cork.
