looking for a camera

hi, i'm getting a digital camera for my birthday, and looking for advice as to which one. it'll have to be between 350 & 400 euro. i was looking at some today; olympus mju mini, nikon si and a pentax. was originally looking for a canon but wouldn't get as good a zoom or as many pixels for that price as i would with the others. i want something reasonably small, but good quality as i'm quite interested in photography as more than a hobby (maybe not with this camera but i have to start somewhere!). i've been told that canon, nikon and olympus are the top three right now, but am having difficulty deciding. any advice would be appreciated, espacially if anyone has experience with said cameras, or other canon/nikon models etc. thanks.

    Hi Tinka
TBH i would advise you against getting the mini mju if you are serious about getting into photography, I have one which i have as a smaller camera to bring on nights out and stuff. Its allright for that, although very slow it seems like it can take a few knocks and is nice and neat. However you cannot really mess around with aperature shutter speed etc. I would suggest that you get a camera with some sort of a manual mode aswell as

Can i recommend a fuji s5600, i have the previous version the s5500 which i love (although i wud really like to upgrade the newer version), and have taken lots of decent pictures with. ive seen it for 429 euro with a 256 Xd card charger and batteries and a case in town. That may be a bit over budget for you. Im sure people more knowledgable than me will post suggestion but i am really happy with this camera

I think its a great camera to learn with as it has manual mode, as well as fully automatic, and "semi automatic "modes where you can set the aperature and it sets the shutter speed to get the orrect exposure and vice versa

    Hope this helps

thanks for the advice king eric, mju mini isn't what i'm looking for. i'll check out the fuji. also, i may have a bigger budget as i have family coming over next week who can probably get something in duty free. so i'm researching different canon models, particularly the ixus range. does anyone have any experience with this range? i'm looking at the ixus 55 right up to the ixus 750, although the man at the camera centre recommended the 55 over the 750. something to do with sony but i can't remember what.. anyway, i would appreciate any feedback anyone has to offer.
