Getting tv on an apple

I had a look through the forums but couldn't find an answer to do this, so apologies if it's been brought up before.

I'm planning on getting an iMac G5 and I was wondering if there's any way of getting a tv signal onto it? I'm pretty sure it doesn't come with a tv tuner card, but is there a pheriphal device that an arial connection can plug into? Cheers.

You'll need an external USB of FireWire(Better choice perhaps) tuner card (Such as El Gato's..).

Do you have your heart set on a Mac? Why bother with a G5 if TV-in is a necessary requirement..?

Mac ares the best way to go for video editing, what with finalcut pro and the ppc cpus, try looking at the selection at www.komplett.ie of cards and check apples online store.

To be honest, I just fancied a change. I've been using windows for years. I'm also a web developer, so there's more advantages to having a mac I think. Thanks for the advice - can I use that same device to record the tv signal to the hdd?

Yes.. just ensure that whatever card you get is analog/digital to suit your TV connection (obviously;))

Please note the availability of a MAC Forum for future queries.
