    Hi there,

I was in a pals house down the country during the week and he has the satellite system from Lidl. He was picking up loads of the german channels but none of the ITV or BBC channels that are FTA.

Should he be able to get these FTA channels from this system?

    Regards,

He's obviously got the satellite dish pointing at the wrong satellite.

sounds like he is pointing at astra 1 and not astra 2 / eurobird. tell him to move the dish another 9degrees to the right as he looks at the dish.

The night time adverts are also quite different 9 degrees more east!

Maybe he wants it where it is?

I'm getting bored with the ITV's and BBC's. So, is it worth the trek up the ladder to move the dish over 9 degrees (which happens to be the temperature outside right now).

Thank you everyone for the replies. I'm going up to that part of the country at the weekend and will hopefully get this chap working off Astra 2.

Re: My handle - I'll be the first to admit that I am as thick as two short planks of wood!! No offence meant to planks of wood of course.

    Thanks again folks.

    Take care.

Tony, that's hilarious. I didn't realize that you thought that I called the OP a dummy.
I was curious about your post but I believed that it had to do with the fact that I called myself a ‘newbie’ on the referring link.

    Well check this list.
    http://www.lyngsat.com/astra19.html

Note some are ANALOG PAL. WHITE background. Won't work on Digital receiver

    Some are Scrambled/Encrypted. ORANGE coloured.

The PALE YELLOW / Creamy coloured background channels will all work.

The PINK / Purple are data. No good for a set-top box except if it is an updage channel for the one you have SW updates for Lidl and Palcom and others are on 19.2E

Thanks Watty. There are a few english news channels on Astra 1 so it's not all foreign. Or I might move it further over for Hotbird at 13.0 to warm up the blood on these cold, dark winter nights.

    Hi

I finally got my Lidl box working again (after a year of non use) and I can receive some of the FTAs but not others, regardless of what time of day I try. Last year I was getting more channels. At the moment I can get BBC 1 East (W) BBC 1 (CI), ITV3, CNN, SkyNews and some others that are really not veryinteresting. I sued to be able to get BBC3, BBC4 and BBC News 24 but not anymore. Any ideas? PS I'm new to this satellilte thingy.

    Thanks.

You are missing "Transponders". Here is how to add them automatically.

    Go to scan menu.
Check the transponder has a signal.
Change Scan Type to "network Transponder Scan"

    Scan

If it doesn't find a whole list and only scans the selected transponder go back and try next transponder, and change scan type again. (Default is Auto, next is usually "Scan Transponder" which only scans one, and last option is usually Network Search / Network Table or network transponder.

Only some Transponders have the whole list on them.

    Hi

Thanks for that. I got some more FTAs for ITV 1 channels but not the others. This is what I did.

Got Main menu up and selected Installation and entered password. 6 options listed.
    1 Antenna setting
    2 Satellite search
    3 Manual TP Search
    4 Factory Default
    5 Upgrade via Satellie
    6 USALS Setup

I used Manual TP search and worked through some of the transponders listed. This seems to have enabled some more FTAs but still no BBC 3 or 4 or 24 News yet? I seem to b e getting a signal (yellow light on front of receiver is on) but no picture or sound. Can you get these FTAs?

BBC3 and BBC 4 share CBeebies and CBBC. Changes over at 7pm

    All FTA work.

What menus are under Satellite Search?

The Stickies and ICDGopedia both list the BBC and ITV transponders, to add them manually, but there ought to be a Transponder Network search somewhere.

Yep, the Manual TP search should do the trick on the Lidl box (as far as I can remember). You may have to play around some with other setting in there to get it to search for all the transponders. I am not near my receiver, so I can't go into specifics. But there's no reason why you shouldn't have BBC3/4.

I will be doing another scan (in the hope of finding something new) in the next couple of days, so let me know if you have no joy and I'll carefully track my steps and post them here.

    Hi Watty

I checked after 7pm and still not difference to last time, i.e. no picture or sound.

On my screen under Satellite Search I see three panels. One lists Satellites, one Transponders and the third has Scan all channel or Scan Free Channels. I select Astra 2 from the satellite list. I cannot select from the transponders lists but I selected Scan Free Channels and two more panels appear, one lists TV and the other seems to list Radio channels. It appears that all transponders are being scanned. Quality doesn't seemto fall below 60% and strength doesn't seem to fallbelow about 75%. The BBC channels all appear on the TV list along with about 208 other channels and 226 radio channels. But still not picture or sound with BBC1 London, BBC1 NI, BBC2, BBC3 or BBC4 or BBC News 24. The settings for aqll of these are ASTRA 2, 10773, H, 22000, 5/6. BBC1 East (W), BBC1 CI work with setting 10847, V, 22000,5/6.

Finally from themain installation menu when I click on Antenna Setting I have the Satellite as Astra 2, transponder can be selected and it doensn't make any difference which of the two transponder settings (10773 or 10847) is select, I still don't see the BBC channels.

I think I'm being logical but obviously missing something.

Thanks for the offer, see my reply to watty, I'm still having no joy.

Delete any transponders / channels that are blank and re-add them.

You might find some menu /settings help here:

    Hi

That worked!! Great. Thanks for all the help. The receiver user interface is not the easiest, it isn't obvious how you delete or add channels/transponders until you select them.

Anyway I can now see the missing channels. Final question, is there any way of getting Channel 4?

    Joe

Good to hear that you have all your channels.

And nope, no chance of getting Channel 4 on FTA.

    The subtitles might work :)

On RTE1,2 TV3 and TG4 I get subtitles and Teletext only.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 460 ✭✭joeirish

Does that mean I should be able to get RTE channels also? Which transponders are you using?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

No picture or sound on RTE etc. They are encrypted. But the teletext and subtitles work.
