I'm told I need one of these as my battery isn't recharging at low revs.
Anyone know what they cost or where to source ?
    Any other info ?

    Many thanks.

    new alternator?

you could try city spares(http://www.cityspares.ie/) for a second hand one, or mountjoy motorcycles for a new one

The term Generator confused me as I hadn't heard it in terms of a motorbike before so an alternator is what we're talking about, i.e. the thing that recharges the battery when the bike is running.

This G53-web.jpg is listed as a generator here http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/ Is this the same thing as an alternator ?

    Thanks.

There are a few possibilities here
    - knackered battery
    - duff rectifier/regulator
    - short or break in the wiring loom leading from alternator
    - faulty alternator windings.

Of those, the alternator windings are probably the least likely thing to go. Most mechanics are pretty ignorant electrically and just suggest you replace the first thing they think of
If you have, or can get, a voltmeter there are some easy tests you can do, post back here if you want details.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.
