All my attempts have been terrible so far,I only have a blender no juicer, so the oranges are all chewy.

I've had a blender aswell and make them fine. I skipped useing whole oranges and went to orange juice mostly because I didn't want to have to peel them and they'd add a bit too much tough fiber for my likeing.

I usually cut up and shove in a banana or two and two apples (golden delicious, red chief, whatever as long as they're hard and crunchy) or strawberries or whatever fruit I've bought. Half a large pot of yoguart or two small ones and then half a litre of orange juice (although a bit at the start to get things going and the rest when it's all smooth so none of the fruit is swimming around avoiding the blades) You can add as much juice as you want later, I've found that putting the yoguart in with the fruit and then blending works alot better than trying to blend the fruit on it's own.

That made a good bit for me, I think I nearly got two pints out of it in the mornings.

I do it a different way, it takes me one minute in the morning:

    Open pint of natural yoghurt
Open can of strawberry can. Keep juice.
    Peel banana
Throw the whole lot in blender
    Add sugar to taste
    Blend for 10 sec.
    Serve

    Yummy!

I make smoothies using one of three different bases - orange juice, apple juice or yoghurt. The trick with smoothies is to blitz things that normally won't juice easily (except apples) - e.g. bananas, strawberries, mangoes, peaches, blueberries, plums, pears - soft fruit.

The liquid then comes from a carton - e.g. yoghurt, (or half-n-half yoghurt and skimmed milk) or OJ or apple juice.

I find a smoothie made from one ripe banana, one ripe pear and a 1/4 pint of rice milk (a milk substitue made from ice) is actually pretty good and doesn't disturb my stomach too much early in the morning.

A spoonful of muesli adds a nice bit of texture.

I find freezing the yoghurt and fruit beforehand helps to thicken it up nicely, and I prefer honey to sugar as a sweetener.

    Add sugar to taste

Does this not kind of negate the whole point of having a nice & healthy smoothie..
If I need a sweetener, I put in a teaspoon of honey as OSiriS said, but most of the time, I don't bother with sweetener at all!

Some frozen fruit turns to mush on defrosting as the cells are exploded. It also helps to cool down the drink, esp. as the fast stirring can heat up the mixture.

this week i've started drinking homemade smoothies as part of a balanced diet with loads of drinking water and have had great results. i've lost loads of weight, and never hungery. im also working out ALOT too.

    a) 2 banana's

    b) 2 - 3 large strawberries,

    c) 1/3 of a large pot of Glenisk Vanilla Pro biotic yogurt

    d) glob of honey,

    e) dash of vanilla baking essence,

dash of low fat milk can also be added if a looser consistency is required.

its sweet, fruity, healthy, filling, satisfying.

I have about a pint of this smoothie every morning with my special K. tho i may start making the smoothie a bit thicker and have it on its own for breakfast.

    I will join in.

Basic recipe: some frozen strawberries, a banana, some yoghurt and some fruit juice. Whiz together using a hand blender.

Stuff I occasionally add in depending on having it and how I feel:

    1) juice of half a lime
    2) some ground ginger
    3) some wheatgerm
    4) some chopped almondsor chopped hazelnuts. Macadamie if Ican get them unsalted.
    5) maple syrup

If I don't have yoghurt I might add an extra banana and use milk instead/

Occasionally I'm organised eough to buy cut up and freeze mango

The fruit juice of choice is currently Tropican orange, will often go multivit or orange and mango as well.

Occasionally have chopped pineapple. I substitute out the strawberries for the most part - as in there is always a banana in the smoothie.

Have to say my fave smoothie is

2 oranges (with the peel left on)
    2 apples (with the core)

    Handful of grapes
    2 or 3 pears

    Few handfulls of ice

    Best breakfast ever!!!

Yeah, I use frozen fruit but only leave it out for about an hour, rather than fully defrost to try and stop the breakdown of the cells too much. Nice and cool alright.

Aldi do bags of mixed frozen fruit for a couple of euro, no added sugar or anything.
Sit out for an hour covered, throw them in a blender with half a glass of fruit juice, a banana and whatever else you want to add. Add yoghurt if you want or honey to sweeten rather than sugar. Blend away.

Sometimes instead of fruit juice, I use one of those soluble vitamin tablets, making it up and adding it for extra nutrients.
