Do travellers have television licenses?

After moving home recently, I was pestered incessantly by the ‘bureau’ looking for proof of a T.V. license. With weekly letters threatening court and humiliation, I finally had to submit my proof.

Which caused me to ponder (so it did) ……. Do travellers (itinerants) have television licenses and if not, why not?

I’m living in a town with a sizeable population of travellers, with the majority of them driving 04 or 05 jeeps and vans and I’m willing to bet that they don’t have licenses or receive visits from the television inspector. A large percentage of these fine people are also a constant source of 'grief' to the local settled community.

Is there a different law for them?

Mods: You may disagree but this is a debate about a greater social issue than just a television license, and I humbly suggest that it may not warrant a bump to the television forum.

I think this is a suitabl;e place for the standard Pavee Point answer. "99% of travellers have tv licences it is a very small minority that break the law. The majority of travellers are law abiding citizens who just want to live the same way as their ancestors"

    MY ARSE

When you think about it they don't pay anything that the law abiding citizens of this Country pay ie. Taxes, littering fees (cause they leave ****e wherever they go) never had to pay that, probably insurance & tax for there cars, no esb bills need i go on.

My point is they don't have to pay these so i doubt very much they are going to be worrying about paying a TV licence??

Mossy: I'll ask them if you come with me.

Within a week of moving into my new abode, 2 caravans landed into the vacant yard next to my house. They had these very fancy satellite receivers and aerials protruding from their caravans ..... it was like NASA's Mission Control. Except for the constant smoky fires from the burning rubbish, screaming in the middle of the night (or was that me?), the sound of breaking bottles ..... it could have been Cape Canaveral.

Its must be hard for An Post to send them a letter regarding their TV licence.

Nearly all travellers have the same address, No Fixed Abode.

There's no equality in this republic.

It's none of your business tbh, OP. there are agencies out there to deal with this stuff.

Not his business - what a load of ****e. Why is it not his business ? he is allowed to "ponder" as he says himself.

He knows there are agencies to deal with it that is why he is not dealing with it he is merely asking about it.

If everyone shared your ideas all threads would end after two posts

It's a thinly disguised attempt at traveller-bashing tbh. What next? Do black people pay car tax?

If people were more like me, this forum's level of content would be far better tbh.

There are alot easier ways to bash travellers, burglary,no car tax/insurance, with a wheel brace, littering etc

Those threads have already been made and binned tbh!

    Yeah they'd consist of

    "I hate pikeys"
    "that's horribly prejudice!"
    "You're right, I love pikeys"
    "That's almost as bad"
    "Ok, I love travellers"
    "...don't you mean 'residentially impaired?'"

Nobody can have a bloody opinion anymore without the PC brigade coming in and asking for "statistics to back up that claim." It's getting ridiculous.

If it truely is about a "greater social issue", then it's better off in Humanities or politics, better phrased. We've been down the traveller-bashing road many times on this forum. I'm tired of it.
