Anybody here about Bus Eireann going on strike on Friday? Wondering if buses will still be running from Cork to Galway. Does anybody have any more info?

Oh great. It'll probably end up at around 3 hours of disruption if you factor in the time it takes buses to get back from outlying areas and then to get out again.

If you don't care, don't post.

NBRU supports National Day of Protest on job displacement and in support of Irish Ferries workers

    December 6th, 2005.

NBRU General Secretary Liam Tobin has urged members to participate in the National Day of Protest on Friday (December 9th). “Our Union will fully support the Irish Congress of Trade Unions National Day of Protest on Friday 9th December 2005”, he said today, confirming media speculation that the non-Congress union would take part.

However he also said members were being asked to work normally before the protest begins at 1.30pm and to return to work afterwards to ensure protestors can get home.

“The protest has been organised to show solidarity with the workers in Irish Ferries and to demand Government action to address the issues of displacement and exploitation in the Irish economy. All members are encouraged to support this initiative”, he said.

“It is imperative however, that members supporting this protest ensure that Public Transport is available to bring commuters to their destinations in the morning and to take them home in the evening on the day of the protest.

“Members will be given further details on final arrangements when more detail is available.”

Judging by much of the comments on here about the topic most people don't give a fuk anyway so it probably won't make a difference either way.

anyway what makes you think that drumming up public support is the goal in the first place? To quote the union official from above:

“The protest has been organised to show solidarity with the workers in Irish Ferries and to demand Government action to address the issues of displacement and exploitation in the Irish economy."

By making people realise how much they need public transport.....You never realise how much you need something until its gone...Regardless of how unreliable and sh!t it is.

    From RTE:

Irish Rail has said that three trains from Waterford to Heuston Station in Dublin due to depart between 11.30am and 3pm have been cancelled because of today's protests.

The rail firm said that all other Intercity services would operate as normal.

In Dublin, LUAS services on the Red Line between Smithfield and Connolly Station will not operate between 12pm and 3pm.

Services on the rest of the Red Line and services on the Green Line will run as normal.

    From BreakingNews

Dublin Bus has said it cannot guarantee services after 11am, while DART and other commuter rail services are also expected to be hit.

What do you expect from CIE though? I say give the jobs to the immigrants, might be the kick up the arse the irish workers need. Look at the 49 bus route? to get into work at 9 you have to leave your house at 7, to try and get onto a bus thats already full by the second stop, so god help us all in Hunterswood that are like 16 stops away, so we leave an hour earlier than everyone else, I leave my house at half six to get into town for 8.00 and if i tried to get the 7.00 bus i wouldnt make it into town til 10. **** them, and there pissy bus service.

its not just about giving the jobs to foreigners, its about moving the jobs to another country where they can pay what the hell they like.

    boo ****ing hoo

at least you dont have to worry about getting sacked and replaced by foreign workers working for 1/6th you earn.

its screweing over irish workers and exploiting foreign workers, neither of which should be allowed.
