One of my mates came in bout 11.30 and said it was dead tonight:confused:
IMO i think it was a get rich quick scandal that backfired. Dropped another mate to the Hurlers bout 8ish and there was a fair amount of people outside so i reckon it was busy enough.

What happened to the day you could just walk into a pub and fall out and all you had to do was spend money on drink. Not silly tickets.......tsk......tsk....... youth of today.

    I don't get Christmas Daze.

You're basically just charging people to go into the scholars for a bit?

    Err... what?

I also want to have a word(i.e. a few hard wooden poles over the head) with the guy who does the music/sound system in there. They were playing Gorrilaz - Dare, and the bass was blaring twice as loud as anything else, it was extremely irritating to walk past, I'd hate to think what it'd be like inside.

It must be some "Boys - Choons! Pumpin' up the bass!" that drive around in their Honda Civics playing Darude and other such outdated pop dance "classics" that have no notion of the subtilties of equalization.

Yeah. You, go to bed. And you did drink rather too much of that dodgy beer. There are, I believe, two bottles of the Czech Republic's finest nationised beer still in your fridge should you feel the need to remind yourself of what proper beer tastes like.

As for the actual thread title, Christmas Da(y)(ze) would be one of those Stables occasions for me where you really need a full pint as you queue at the bar as despite best efforts of the staff behind it, you'll have the whole think drunk by the time they get to give you any attention. Hence I can't think of a single reason why I'd bother.

Agreed, which is why we didn't buy tickets for the cattle mart.

Back in the day...(I'll give you a hint - it was a big deal when those new tenners with James Joyce on them came out!) christmas days was as much of a cattlemart. (true fact - i know the chap who had the wonderful idea of re-doing the spelling. keraazzzy guy!)

    The rationale for ticketing was
    a) the pub will be full if we don't charge
    b) the pub will be full if we do charge a nominal fee
    c) charities will get a few quid if we donate nominal fee to charidee.

We all thought it was a great idea. Then you see it in action, and it IS a tad incongruous to see people getting wasted for charity. And I should fcukcing know - i justified it to m'self enough times dammit. There was, of course, the side issue that certain folks with mini-napoleon complexes who may or may not have been managers of certain boozers on campus turned Christmas days into a charity/vanity project that left a lot of people cold...inviting out photogrphers and the like for the presentation of cheques. While at the same time the residents were complaining about students urinating in the letterboxes. If you're a student in limerick, the only kind of publicity is bad publicity...

    But God, i miss UL...

    :D

Thankfully CHUG was was the only 4 letter word I heard, not the OTHER one!

    :D

Well if you're in the locale next week, you can join us for the UL boards beers?

Anyway, if the Scholars was also open, I might have been more enthusiastic about socialising outside of the house but then again we saved a packet load of money and made pigs of ourselves on pizza delivery!

it was dead round 11 but earlier in the day (around 3) it was a good laugh. I spent way too much time in there though, I normally avoid it!
