Pigheads in shock. For the past 12 years it has been my greatest drinking day of the year. The day after Christmas, the day before eh the 27th. Boxing day, St Stephens Day, The Lads Day. A truly monumental day in the pub culture we live in. Blokes fleeing from the family home after spending 24 hours in the suffocating bosom of their relations.

Anyway here comes the shock bit, Kernel has just informed me that most pubs in Dublin stay closed on St Stephens Day and the ones that you can get a drink in you need to have a SECRET KNOCK! Unbelievable. The greatest drinking day of the year and you need a SECRET FCUKING KNOCK. Is this just a dublin thing or is Pighead just extremely lucky hes from Lovely Louth? (Or is Kernel just full of crap)

Most pubs in the city centre stay closed but all the locals near me (portobello/ rathmines area) open. Some clubs open up on stephens night if that tickles your piggy chin

I dunno if Kernal heard this from the fella who single handidly must be relaying the paving stones on O'Connell street for the last few years (rant rave RAVE..), but when I worked in the city centre for many horrid years on Grafton street , the pubs were all open and a fine business they were doing too.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

ah the local last year was closed on st stephens day, but there was a side door entrance to which a phone call had to be made to gain access, youd think there would be only a few, jesus there were loads of people.
    All regulars btw. :)

I've got to agree with pigheads sentiments about drinking stephens day as being great. My personal favourites are drinking christmass eve after work(yes i work christmas eve) and stephens day i hate new years eve though what a load of ****! I'm shocked that most pubs in the pale are closed. In Cork all pubs and clubs are open - the way it should be!

Indeed Dmitri, couldnt have put it better myself. St Stephens day is the day we should be out drinking celebrating all the great work that Stephen done. The lad was a legend.
Shame on Dublin, St Patrick never has this problem.

Well considering how much more of them we have here, Dimitri, there are plenty open.
