me: "lecture name & course" (first english, critical readings)
print shop lady: She has notes on the sonnets.
    me: okay, i'll take those.

*huge single wad of paper comes out of folder. starts getting printed.. i think "****"*

    Print shop lady: 8.55 please
me: *cries and forks up money*

"well," thinks passive "If she's given us this much stuff and we already have our exam paper it must all be good and relevant to the questions we've been asked"
    *reads through notes*

no...wait...this is a random load of crap! how nice of the lecturer to give it in in one lump without dividing it into different categories. I'm absolutely thrilled with this worthless, unhelpful load of crap that i shall make no use of whatsoever in studying for my exam next week

Something similiar, but less completely useless happened last time i get English notes... Is there any proper method for complaining about the quality, quantity or relevance of the notes provided? This makes me sad...

If it makes you feel any better it took me 3 hours to print out an assignment in college today - good thing I wasn't in a hurry :D

the notes are given by the lecturers and not the SU, they only photocopy it - complain to your lecturer or if you want to take it up with the SU Jackie is the manager of the SU photocopying shop or Jane Horgan-Jones Education officer.

The English department should have a staff/student committee meeting once a term. You could have your department rep raise it atr the next one.

Always check through the stuff before you buy it. The people in the SU won't have a clue what should or shouldn't be in there, and if it's not relevant, just do your own research. I know you're a fresher, but it's not that hard to find stuff in the short loan collection, and if you reserve the short loan copies of books (be careful when reserving them, click on teh exact copy you want), you should have them within two days.

I'm glad all computer science lecturers put all their stuff on their websites, or moodles. :) I also remember when all the printers in computer science were free. It was a handy way to get notes. :D

Oh no.. didn't mean to give the wrong impression. I was completely whining about the lecturer and not the SU lady.. she even let me off the .55c!. But actually she said "sonnets" and i said "yeah"... My yeah actually meant i'll look at them rather than print the folder... But that wasn't her fault really... sigh... anyway there are worse things that could have happened. I could have an exploded laptop :p

And thanks for the tips Blush!

Same thing, but the SU lady told me that some of the copies were replicated and that she spoke to the English department, basicaly they ignored her request. I guess that sums it up
