 My ex-sub sky+ box won't turn on. (I cancelled sky some time ago, now use ftv card only, so sky+ doesn't work any more). red light is on button but it won't turn on when pressed. it's blinking every 10 - 15 secs and is whirring away in the background. This happened yesterday afternoon and it hasn't worked since..... had to resort to watching liverpool v chelsea on tv3 last night, poor me! Any suggestions? Thanks

switch off for 2 hours or more, to blank the memory and reset it, if it still doesnt work, its the bin for it, and either the for sale general forum or buy and sell , or ul have to take out a new sub with sky for a subsidised box, or buy a new unsubed one. pays ur money and take ur choice..

It could well be that the boot up sector of the hard drive is corrupted. Here is what pace say (btw this will erase all your recordings sorry)

    1. Disconnect from mains
    2. Press left and right arrow keys on front of receiver
3.Re connect mains while holding down arrow keys
    4. keep pressed intil green circle leds light
    5.release left /right buttons
    6. press select
    7. the green circle led's rotate anticlockwise approx 20 times
    8. green leds go out
    9. if the green play led lights then HHD format is good
    10. if red lights the format is not good and hard drive is faulty

    11. let us know how you get on :)

New Hard dirve is not too expensive or hard to fit. But some of the faster ones are too noisy, less reliable.

    Tony...

I am getting as far as turning power back on with arrows pressed. Green circle comes on, I press select then the red record comes on for a few secs. Thats it then, back to the red power light blinking every 10 secs and whirring in background. no sign of green circle rotating.... Is it fecked?

    Thanks

Yeah I Agree with Darth, can you fit a new hard drive for it? I think theres a thread on that subject. You other option is to send it to kesh electrics or somewhere similar.

Yeah but as he is only using it for FTV services, better option is to pick up a cheap s/h box.

Or see if you sign up for THREE months renewal if they give a new box. They gave me a new box when I renewed and I can cancel after 3 moths and no phone line requirement.

3 x21.50 + 21.50 months notice = 86 Euro plus 4 months viewing of Variet and Knowledge pack. Good value for a new box and they also gave a Quad LNB free, as I had connected up my two dual LNB ports to two other sat receivers.

They make LOTS from the subs and especially phone services so I gues they think it is good marketing to be generous.

I assume my sky+ box is 'dead' too then.

Last night when I went to turn it on, the red light came on and the box had some very low 'humming' noises coming from it.

I spent an hour on hold with Sky tech support, they got me to update the software (power on & holding the backup button). The screen came on abotu updating the software and then back to blue screen and the same humming noises.

it is less than a year old, has anyone any idea how quickly sky could turn around a replacement ?
