Sorry for duplicate posting lads, it's just I think alot of the educated people here in the instruments forum would be able to give me some good suggestions.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054859754 - original thread.

For the instruments relationshop, what's the best way of recording electric ? MY AVT 100 has a line out. Should effects like distortion always be added post-production ?

    Cheers !

I think, as a rule, that distortion effects should be sorted out before you do a take. If you have a good amp, it's the best way to achieve a sound through experimenting beforehand and then record. Although programs like guitar rig are useful for post production guitar sounds, it's not as good as the real thing i.e. a quality amp and a quality mic, and I personally think that post-recording production on guitar effects should only comprise of effects such as flangers and phasers etc. so that you always have a great sounding foundation take that you can work from without ruining it with an effect you can't later take off.

Plus sorting the sound out beforehand is a great way to learn how to get a really nice sound down on record and will only improve your ears and make you a better producer.
