Was there in a yellow Kadett Coupe Rallye. Left Galway at 3.30 , got to the Gap at 6.30, Marshalls wouldn't let us park in the car park!, looked like it was reserved for effin Mk2 Scrotes.

:) Was at Molls Gap on Sunday morn . Great stuff. Loads of sideways. Some very nice road going RS2000's parked around there & in Killarney - both MK1 & MK2. Have been involved in Rallying for more years than I care to remember but was shocked at the cost of a competitive MK2 RS2000. It costs 120 grand Sterling ( YES £120,000stg) to get a state of the are MK2 built - that's what the top competitors are running. Come with a 2.4L Millington engine, sequential gearbox, latest suspension & all the necessary go faster & safety bits. Love to know how one comes up with £120K cash & be willing to throw it all away in a Kerry bog if things go pear shape. Saw a MK1 Escort 1600GT rally prepared car which was competing but was for sale after the Rally for €20K. I prefer it to the modern Rallies - much more sideways.

This thread reminds me of watching an episode of "Reeling in the Years" on RTE.

Definitely the Mk1's/Mk2's and the Mantas were the best years. I went to practically every rally in Ireland between 1988 and 1995 !

The RWD Cosworths were the last cars that made it look interesting, then the Subaraus for their shear speed and that wonderful noise the early ones made before they started using the matched length exhausts which really flattened the sound !

Thats the one MAN 840, its my brother's car, he was chatting to you. We need to do a few jobs on it, lights have a mind of their own:) . We found out that morning it was converted to RHD by Tony Fall who ran Dealer Opel Team Europe in the 70's 80's.
