    Have an Xbox

    Have BT boradband

Have a wireless netowork using DI-624 (on the house desktop with supplied BYT modem) which my laptop is connected to (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=6)

    I have a wireless bridge via a DWL-810.

I'm trying to run Xbox live over the wireless bridge.

I plug wireless bridge into Xbox. Xbox sees DWL-810 but no IP or DNS server.

Being trying to use this guide http://games.dlink.com/products/DWL-G810/wireless-bridge-installation-guide.asp

When i plug in 192.168.0.30 with the bridge plugged into my laptop (which is on my wireless network) firefox cant find it.

Any one know whats going wrong?

I just set up a Wireless bridge to my Xbox the other day, it's a Belkin router and bridge but should be the same procedure. First, plu the bridge into your laptop via ethernet cable. You'll need to do this in order to configure the bridge with your WAP settings (security access codes and so on). I gave mine the IP address I wanted on the xbox (192.168.1.34) the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and the gateway to be the DSL router (192.168.1.1).

Once this is done, you can test the bridge on your laptop by pinging the router and anything on the internet through it. Disconnect your laptops wireless connection first though, you don't want it getting confused.

If it all works, connect the bridge to the xbox, switch them both on and it should work. At least it did for me anyway.

Should this be done in Netowrk Conections-LAN-TCP/IP-proerties?

Can you set the wep password doing this as well?

what ip address has the laptop got, it needs to be in the same ip address range as the bridge to connect to configure.

    On laptop:
Click on start->run. Type in "cmd". When the command prompt opens type "ipconfig"

See what is listed as ip address and post back here....

    ip addressmlaprop
    192.168.0.51
    subnet 255.255.255.0

so if i set the ip address on the wireless bridge to sat 192.168.0.52 and then set up its wep properties i should be rock and rolling?

The bridge's default ip address is 192.168.0.30 so you should be able to connect to it by entering 192.168.0.30 into your browser on ur laptop. you'll then be able to configure it before connecting to the xbox.

If you can't connect to it from browser, do a reset to restore the bridge to factory settings and try again. If it still fails get onto Dlink support

    http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=DWL%2DG810

    Theres the support page above.

Try sticking a pin in the reset hole on the back of the bridge to reset it to factory defaults before attempting to configure it.

I was looking for that page for ages and kept saying product was discontinued and couldnt find any info.

    Thanks for the link

I imagine its still configured with an ip address in the range 192.168.2.0/24, which would explain why you cant connect to it on 192.168.0.30. I probably should have mentioned that when I sold it to you. Pin in the back should sort you out.

PM me if you need any more help.

Sorry to bump this but I'm still having problems.

I've been working off this guide http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=1277&question=DWL-810+%20/%20DWL-810+_revB%20/%20DWL-G810
    which has been posted before.

At the momement I have the DWL-G810 hooked up to the laptop.

The wireless router is set up on a desktop down stairs.

When i run ipconfig i get this

LAN (I assume this is the DWL-G810)
    IP 192.168.0.20
    Subnet 225.225.225.0

WLAN ( I assume my wireless card)
    IP 192.168.0.100
    Subnet 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway 192.168.0.1

As far as I can remember the IP adress of the computer connected to the modem and wireless router is 192.168.0.1 but will confirm.

I've followed step one from the DLink Help guide after reseting the bridge.

But as soon as I try and log on to the bridge with 192.168.0.30 the page just times out.

Cant see what is going wrong?

Any one have any other ideas?

ipconfig on the laptop wont list the details of the bridge, it simply lists the details of each network interface on the laptop. LAN refers to the connection via the ethernet port, and WLAN refers to your wireless NIC.

Have you tried resetting the bridge using the reset switch at the back to restore to factory settings yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

disconnect everything from laptop (no wireless card, cable etc).

Set ip address of laptop to 192.168.0.25 subnet mask 255.255.255.0

factory reset the bridge using the reset button on it. Connect it to the laptop.

Open browser and enter 192.168.0.30. See if you can connect to it then.

If that fails trying pinging 192.168.0.30 and see what occurs.

    How do I do that.

I have been disabling the wireless card and while the bridge is unconnected go to network connections right click on LAN and properties and change it in there. Is that the right thing to do?

Aldo how do i ping an ip?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

yea either remove the card, or if it's internal jsut disable it.

When you go into network connections it's the LAN ip address you need to set to 192.168.0.25 etc. Make sure it's enabled

To ping: Start->Run->cmd. At command prompt type "ping 192.168.0.30"

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

Just pinged the address and it timed out and no data was sent.

    That would suggest what exactly?

What I read was that the address wasnt a web page etc it was a location on the rom and when you typed that in your url thats brought you to that rom chip

sounds fúcked up to me.... you should be able to ping it.

yea the bridge has its own lil web server that is uses to display config page when u type 192.168.0.30.

Have you tried bridge in another PC using the same method?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

Just tried the set up again and no luck. DOnt know what the story is.

Used the desktop but cant seem to get it log on to that url.

Gona use my sisters laptop when see gets back if that makes any difference.

Would the cable make any difference?

well if the cable is borked then yea it wouldn't work. u got a second cable to try?

I think the cable is ok but I'll try another.

Is it possible the rom chip is broken? Dont know to much about that side of things? Could it be flashed some othter way (the way on the site wont work need to log on to 192.168.0.30)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

to be honest, assuming the cable is ok, ur network card on laptop is working ok and u have an ip address in teh same range and subnet as the bridge's default settings and you still can't connect then I'm thinking the bridge is borked.

Do you have any firewall on the laptop?

Yeah I have a firewall on.

My ip should be in range. I have set it to 192.168.0.25 which as far as I know is in the correct range but networking isnt my strong point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

disable the firewall. and yea that is in the same range.... anything from 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255 is in the same range

it might. no harm in trying considering nothings worked to date...

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

Tired turning off the firewall and still the same.

This may sound stupid but should I "tell" my computer to use the LAN rather than the WLAN?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

no, if the wireless card is disabled it's only live connection would be the via the network card. Out of interest, when you plug the bridge in, does the network cable unplugged icon in the system tray still remain? or does it say "connected at 100Mbps" or what?

When its connected it has "connected at 100 Mbps". When you disconnected it has the little pc screen with a red x to show its not connected.

This is why I reckon the cable is ok but the rom might be broken.

If you wouldnt mind having a look at it I would be very greatful. It could be something simple I'm doing wrong.

Will you need any info to configure it for me? I can bring my laptop along if needs be.
