    Just spawned by another thread.

When you meet your partners parents, do they like you or are you the kind they HATE!!! Personally when I meet a girlfriends parents they love me. I allways end up pally with the dad, going for a beer with him and the mammy just loves me.

Do they hate you or love you and why? Does the nose bull ring annoy them a little? Is it the LOVE HATE tattoos on your knuckles? Do you try to feel her up in front of daddy? Do you ask mammy for spare condoms?

Compare and contrast. Or just discuss

I have been going out with my Boyfriend for 3 years and I have never met his parents.

Whe we first started going out, my BF lived with this folks down the country, I lived with mine in Dublin. Neither of us had a car and for one reason or another, I never got round to meeting them.

They moved to South Africa over 2 years ago and they haven't been back since.

So I don't know if they would like me or not, my guess is, his mam would like me, and although I normally get on better with Men, then I do with women, I reckon his dad wouldn't like me after a day or two in my company as I am a bit bossy, and what father wants to think his son is whipped???

(he isn't whipped by the way, but I can see how his dad might think otherwise, with my ex boyfriend, this was definately the case, his mam thought I was Ms Independant Girly of the decade, his Dad just thought I was a spoilt, overly opinionated bitch -
Maybe he was onto something there :P

Are you so Naive to think that this has nothing to do with you?

Ha ha ha, maybe it has something to do with me, who knows? Who cares?

All I need to know is that my BF satyed here with me, because he loves me, so who cares what his folks think of me?

I'm only on my 3rd serious bf.

    The 1st:-
They thought they were better than everyone else! The da was ok, but got bossed around by the alcholic ma. She'd be your best friend today, but with a hangover tomorrow would be a witch!!!
(Seemed to like me most times, I could never warm to the ma)

    The 2nd:-
Ma loved me (except one time I made a joking comment bout 1 of her daughters (that the rest of the family always did). She didn't like it one bit & huffed a little) The da had already passed away, but seems like he'd have been a good laugh.

    The 3rd:-
Yet to meet them.... :D (The bf's a bit shy about those things, or maybe he's embarrased about me?????)
All good times ahead, no doubt!!!

I'm not a big fan of food.. and I rarely finish any meal.

And when I don't finish the mammy's home cooked meal (or the meal cooked by the servent in one case) they take it as a personal insult...

The conversation went something like "CCRRRAAAIIGGGGG Im very siiiicccckkk uhhhhh.... Craaaiiiiig where are yaaaa????":o
I was so embarrassed! She said she thought it was funny, I don't know though I always get the feeling she doesn't really like me but then I could be just paranoid!!!!

I've only met 3 of my boyfriends (out of 4 serious ones) parents

    the first set
The mum loved me and even gave mark a very hard time when we broke up apologising to me several times for her moody git of a son
His dad I met three times in a space of a year and he never remembered me which we both thought was hilarious

The second one the first time I met his Mum was also the first time I met his son which meant I was doubly nervous(god knows why I worried about meeting a 1 year old but did get v strange looks off the little lad when me and him were sitting beside each other holding hands)
Anyway the mum loved me and proceeded to fill me with white wine hovering around me topping up my glass every time I took a swig
was feeling v drunk so had to get him replace most of it with white lemonade otherwise I'd have trouble walking
    other than the drunkenness
she loved me and me made me brekkie and all most mornings I was there
The dad on the other hand OMG worst story ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!still cringe:o :o:o

met him a few times seemed really nice didn't see him much as went the pub after work and I was aware his parents were having probs they were sleeping in separate rooms
One night after my ex's birthday when me and him (mmm not messing drank about 10 cocktails and loadsa pints each )
I got up during the night surprised I could walk because I couldn't walk home :o and forgot to put on clothes while getting water and accidentally god know how stumbled into the dads room he woke up I thought he was the boyf said his name and he said no its dad
I just turned around and went to the right room thinking nothing of it and not even remembering till the next morning well after I had finished breakfast with him and the family
The ex thought it was hilarious making jokes that when I slept over in future he would have to lock me in the room when we fell asleep
    never got over the embarrassment

the 3 rd boyf his dad thought I was attractive and said so to my boyf several time in front of me making me feel v uncomfortable and avoided him after that

im avoiding parents from now no to avoid further incidents:D :D:D:D:D:D

I'm quiet and polite, so the mammies warm to me, but I'm also a nerdy weirdo, so the dads generally aren't big on me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,743 ✭✭✭funk-you

Her parents strangely love me, if the auldfella didn't though every fella knows that you can sit there with a smug look on your face while talking to him and think to yourself-"guess what i'm gonna be doing with your daughter when you go to bed."

Poor bastard. Hats off and let's bow our heads for another poor lad who has had his balls removed. Truly, there but for the grace of God go all of us lads.

I'm usually well loved, except the most recent and current gf's parents, who actually happen to be psychopaths! :D

They're pushing 60 (bear in mind i'm 19) and are terribly old fashioned and protective! She lives at home with them which makes everything so much more difficult! I dont have any intentions to try and bring them around, the way i see it she'll be movin out soon, shortly after that they'll be in a home, and shortly after that they'll be dead... WHAMMO!! Problem solved! :D

My future in-laws quite like me which is rather odd, considering they're real nice, very VERY polite, well spoken etc & I'm covered in tattoos & every second word out of my mouth on occasion has been know to be the 'F' word.... tis nice to have in-law approval hehehehe :D

    They just LOOOOVE me.

Still a bit tough to understand my partner's Da with his very thick Galway accent...
If I don't get what he says, I usually nod and smile, and laugh when he laughs.

He must think I'm a weirdo, but what else can I do?! ;)

Been doing this for almost 3 years!! I only see him twice a year or something.
Besides I doubt he understands my 'continental' accent!

Maybe he does it for a laugh? When I lived in the states I would do that to yanks. If I asked them do they know where something is and they smiled and said yeah I would follow it with "sahfaishd jidofhalsd qed ehfdoqewh dfde two bits huh?" and a little giggle.

all my boyfrieds parents have loved me. i guess i'm just a likeable person :D

My ex's mum adored me and would even bring me shopping like I was her own daughter (even though she had 3!) His sisters thought I was their new best friend and would call me if they ever needed to talk (they were 11, 14 and 16). His dad wasn't always around but when he was he was really nice to me! There was always a real nice family atmosphere in the house and I felt right at home....even after we broke up, his mum and sisters still call me :)

The first time i met a gf's parents the mother was dead on but the father walked into the room and didn't see me, started talking to someone else who pointed out that i was there, he turned around looked at me, gave me a dirty look, said "Jesus Christ" and walked out of the room!
Was drinking with him in a pub one night and after laughing at his stories of how he kicked the s*** out of this fella and that he was grand, lol. Her uncles walked up to me one night and warned me if i ever got up to anythin behind her back etc. they'd be after me. Was very careful not to get caught, lmao!:D

I pity any girl who has to meet my parents, my father would say hello and that'd be it, my mother would interrogate her on her education.
Once i was going out with a girl for 2 years, brought her to the debs, the mother called to her house and i had a struggle to get her to go in then she turned around and asked the girl what her name was just to make me look bad,she knew only too bloody well.
The last girl i brought home the mother liked alot(because she's still in college, lol), wasn't going out with her but now the mother won't stop asking me why i'm not seein her anymore. Headwrecker.

Mostly parents think I'm too good for their sons and they're usually right!

They all assume I'm very sweet and angelic because I'm always polite etc. but then they catch me handcuffing their son to his bed and they get a little confused....

:D:D:D handcuffs ya gotta love them but who's betting the parents have a pair themselves or even in their day!
That would probably make them love u more disciplining their son:D
