A hand that's been on my mind

Playing in the red cow a few weeks ago - down to the last two tables.
Blinds are at 4K & 8K - I am 2nd in chips and the CL is at the table.

CL raised under the gun to 20K - I am sitting to his immediate left and look down at pocket 8's and fold (nothing major here).

    Problem:
I've thought about this hand quite a lot and although it sounds like the right move, I'm still not sure it was - here are the reasons why:
First: CL would raise on any pocket pair and big ace.
Second: CL only doubles the blinds when he's a monster.
Third: CL wasn't experienced enough to mix up his play - and was very much one dimensional.

I honestly don't know why this hand has bothered me so much, any comments appreciated.

    FYI:
CL showed 77 after the table had folded and he eventually went out in 8th

It's not the CL you should be worried about if the 3 reasons you listed are true.
If you call or reraise, then you have the whole rest of the table to act behind you. If any of them decide to get involved it's going to get ugly since they will need a big pair or AK to do so. Then you're 88 won't look so good against an UTG raiser and someone giving action behind.

If CL raises to 20k, let's say you raise to 50k (you don't give stack sizes which could be important). It's folded to the button who makes it 150k or goes all in for a large proportion of your stack. UTG folds and now what do you do?

If you flat call UTG's raise and he bets a flop with an A/K/Q in it what do you do?

It was a good disciplined fold I think.

Sorry should have put in stack sizes etc:
2nd last table - 6 at the table:
    I have 70K, CL 85K
nobody else at the table has over 20K
The other table is even enough with everyone betweeen about 35K - 55K

In this situation I wasn't really worried about the rest of the table - it was a very passive/tight table and when the CL raised I got the feeling they were all about to muck anyways

With how far you and CL are ahead of the field id be very reluctant to get involved with him at all. He is the only person there that can take more then 25% of your stack. Also even though you are second chip leader you have less then ten BB so you dont have chips to play with.

I think its a def fold. Your min raise is to double the bet to 40K and thats almost 60% of your stack on 88.

Wait and try and pick off the smaller stacks. You will have position on CL except once per orbit. Id be reluctant to get involved in any pot he has raised.

Sounds like the fact that you saw C Leader's 7s after the hand is now driving you nuts. You dont want to risk dropping a quarter or more of your stack on this hand when he bets out (which he prob will) on a flop that has overcards on your 8s. I would be putting pressure on the small stacks that have less than 3 BB left to try and get into good shape for heads up.
Poker is all about making decsions and as far as I can see you made the right one here.
Its annoying in home and pub games when a hand is over before the river and people start asking to see what the next card would have been and complaining "oh no, I would have made my straight" etc as if they should have called that pot sized bet on the turn with 4 outs. You make your decsions based on the information at the time. Tough but good fold .

Off topic: Q for lafortezza: what's "pass the suga" about? I know Hachem shouted it when he was ahead on an all-in on final 2 talbes at the WSOP. Is that it or am I missing something else?

easy fold. Depending how many are at the table it may have even been correct for you to open fold it.

I agree, I would only tangle with the CL here if I had a premium hand.
