    Hi
I am having problems with my display on boot up.
Within a minute of booting up the display VDU turns a bright colour and I have to play around with the settings with the graphics menu to darken it to easily see the screen.
Tried resetting the default but no matter what I do I have to do same every time I turn on laptop. Anyone know how i can set it at a reasonable display and hold this setting on boot off and on??
    Thanks
    T.

Can you please specify whether the issue occurrs in Safe Mode?
Can you please specify whether the issue occurrs in the BIOS ("Setup")?

Im only a novice on this so excuse my ignorance on not knowing the answer to your questions. What I can tell you is that i do not turn on in safe mode. this happens when I switch on laptop and log in under my name. The egg timer kicks in and then after a minute or two it goes all bright (strain on the eyes and hard to read icons) then I right click the desktop and play with the graphics mode and the color tabs to adjust quality to my satisfaction

What can i do to permanently fix this issue

    Thanks!

    Apologies.

Can you test the laptop, in BIOS:
To do this: turn the computer on; and straight away - keep tapping the DEL key. Wait a minute or two in there to see if it occurrs. Then exit.

If it doesn't occurr in the BIOS. Test in Safe Mode:
-> After switching the notebook on from cold-> Keep tapping F8. This should present you with Advanced Boot options/Menu. Select Safe Mode. Let it start up as normal and test for a minute or two.

Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that Windows can start in, with minimal configuration and generic drivers so that system (Windows specific) errors can possibly be identified and corrected.

Does the Fn + Brightness (Usually one of the number or Function keys with a symbol of a sun) combo. affect the brightness? (This should provide a temp. workaround also)

Also, can you please check whether it happens on AC Adaptor only, Battery only, and both. [Often laptops will be accompanied by software that changes brightness settings depending on power supply to save battery..yours could be in reverse..Please read your notebooks manual to check for this software's inclusion and to help avoid the necessity of troubleshooting.]

Tried all this. Bios no change. Safe mode did not flicker into "bright" mode and FN and sun symbols work fine

Think it is now to do with Gamma settings, might try system restore to a couple of months ago when I know I did not have this problem unless you have any other solutions

    Thanks

Do you have photoshop or something similar
    installed?

Dont those programs override default gamma
    settings?

System Restore should do the trick ..if you know when it started. (+ there's a possibility of making a mess-but hey, you can undo the Restoration).
I'd personally go with disabling items MSCONFIG (Start->run->msconfig -6) and then re-enable if it does the trick.
Or else, read the manual. (Check in the Control Panel -> Power Options.. for settings that allow you to modify brightness ..)
