Moving Programs to another folder

    Hi

I'm just looking to check if anyone knows if there's a software out there that will do the following.

Windows installs the the programs in the "c:\Program Files\" folder what I want to move a couple of the installed programs eg: from "c:\Program Files\Mozilla", "c:\Program Files\opera" to another new folder "c:\Program Files\browsers" etc. the problem is that I cannot manually move them as the program will stop working, so a program that also changes all the registry and other needed files should do the trick.

Hope is clear what I need to do.

    Thanks in advance.

Why not just uninstall and reinstall? Most applications should give you the option to leave any personalised settings alone, so you can copy them over afterwards.

    Hi

Yes that is a good idea but looking for the easy way, so nothing will get lost, like personal setting, etc

    Regards

Sorry I don't know of a program that does that, but you might be interested to know that the only thing Opera sticks in the registry is the standard stuff for the windows add/remove progs ctrl panel. Everything else is in the Opera dir, so moving it is no problem.

can you not just change the shortcut to read where the new .exe is?

I think you will find that both Opera and Firefox will work OK from another location. Just copy the whole Opera and Firefox folder to the new location(s) and create new shortcuts to firefox.exe and opera.exe on your desktop or wherever else you prefer. Rename the original folders temporarily and then see if the two new locations are working OK. When you are sure all is well just delete the original folders to reclaim your disk space.

Both apps seem to "reinitialise" themselves on first use from their new locations. I have had no problems accessing these programs (held on a neutral partition) from a muti-boot system - without reinstalling from each location.

    Hi all

thanks for the replies, the above are only examples of some programs, but not the programs I want to move, it was to give you an idea of what I want to do.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

    THANKS Again

for firefox and opera you can simply move the program folders and change the short cuts to point to teh new location.

For others that imdebs many reg keys it may give you trouble. There is nothing you can do in this case but to reload the program, there is no software that I know of that configures your pc to the new changes.
