Thought it would be better here than the television forum.
How about a thread that lists all films to be shown on Terrestrial (RTEs, Beebs etc..) for the week ahead?
We could then give opinions on some if they're big films of maybe unheard.
Now and again, some real jems can go unnoticed.
For example, I caught "A Simple Plan" on BBC2 one night at around 12:30am last year.... never heard of it before, but probably one of my favourite films now.

    Thoughts?

Excellent idea whiskeyman. Occasionally my mates will tell me about a great movie they saw on tv that I had never heard of and I get annoyed that I didnt bother to watch it. You do get some occasional great movies on late at night so I think its a great idea

Not a bad idea at all.

If such a sticky or subforum goes ahead, I might put a link in a sticky on the Television forum.

This idea was mooted before but it fell apart due to a lack of enthusiasm/responses. In theory, it's great but it's a matter of people putting in the effort to catch the movie.

OK but who wants to do it? Anyone with DigiGuide or something want to extrapolate a list of movies and then let us comment on it? We'll give it a trial run then.

It'll actually be interesting experiment for over Xmas when there'll be more of the traditional classics on than average and people will get a chance to catch "Some LIke It Hot" again or boo the evil Harry Potter in "It's A Wonderful Life"...

    11/12/05 00:45 Tempting Fate (1998)
    11/12/05 15:15 Call Me Claus (2001)
    11/12/05 21:00 Maid In Manhattan (2002)

That's those three alone up to this weekend.
There's no easy way (that I could find) to copy and paste the films across to here, and Digiguide returned a total of 6416 films (including Satellite listings). I can't see anyone bothering to type this list out every week to be honest.

If the idea in its current form falls on its ass, an easier system would be a stickied thread where posters can post the date and time of a film on tv in the upcoming days which they feel people should know about.

i've seen threads like that appear every now and then (examples being when the original Ring trilogy played on channel 4), having a sticky thread would make it easier and prob encourage more of the similar postings.

sadly i wont be able to donate, i dont have any tc channels (no money for licence at the current time)

I'd second this idea. You can't beat the feeling of stumbling over a classic on TV (usually in the wee hours!!)

One I'll always remember is catching Alfred Hitchcock's Rope one Xmas.

Bring on the TV recomendation Sticky/Forum!!!!!!!!!!!

Starting at 0.05 on BBC 1 is Phantasm III. A great entry to a great series of horror films.

Be sure to try and give it a go if you haven't seen a Phantasm film yet... oh and yes... it's supposed to be vague and confusing even if you've seen all the films.

RTE2 seem to have some of Hollywood 'golden era' (<- at least as far as I'm concerned!) season of movies coming up for Xmas and new years.

25/12 0115 The Last Picture Show
    27/12 0005 The Sting
    28/12 0005 MASH
    28/12 2300 Apocalypse Now
    29/12 0145 Five Easy Pieces
    29/12 2325 Annie Hall
    31/12 0015 Nashville
    01/01 0005 Dog Day Afternoon
    01/01 0220 American Graffiti

I recommend each and every one of them without hesistation.
