That' South Central and Clockers alright.

Colors is a gangsta/cop film with Robert Duval and Sean Penn as cops. Has aged quite a bit at this stage but isn't too bad.
In Too Deep has Omar Epps and LL Cool J. Another cop theme to it, LL being the gang lord and Epps is the undercover cop trying to bring him down, so similarites to New Jack City.
Belly has DMX and Nas, basically they want to get rich, big into drug dealing etc etc. Not bad, probably the best film you'll see DMX in. A few other rappers are in it too.

In Too Deep is a very low budget affair but surprisingly very good. I think it stars Omar Epps. I have it on DVD somewhere, got it in HMV for 5.99. Cover looks like crap, would really put you off it. But it's a good movie as gang movies go.

Some of my Favourites are Menace II Society, Boyz in the Hood and especially the Hughes brothers Dead Presidents. Excellent Film.

There is a fairly rough film, meant to be very violent and realistic but at the same time an excellent watch. It's called Gang Tapes and was apparently refrained from being released in theatres in LA due to fear of it causing riots. Last time I saw it was in HMV for 39.99. Expensive but apparently very worthy of a watch.

What about "You Got Served", a decent enough breakdance movie with an amazing soundtrack.

Just watched New Jack City last week for the first time in years. Chris Rock is outstanding in it. Favourite Line - "who wants to buy a turkey?"!

Now that there is a thread about it, does anyone know where I can get JUICE on region 2 DVD? Ive seen it a few times, but not in years. TBH, the bits I want to see again most are the DJing/scracth scenes. Brilliant.

Im surprised also that people have concentrated on American hood movies here, as possibly the best hood mivie Ive ever seen is actually a French effort called La Haine. Its black and white and subtitled, but a power movie all the same.

Possibly a few more which I cant think of at the moment.

Is that the one where they find a loaded gun in the aftermath of a riot? If so, that was one hell of a film, agreed.

No it's not, and no it hasn't.

Decent breakdancing films are Beatstreet, Breakin' & Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.

    LMMFAO @ makaveli's bluntness

la haine is a class film, they even showed to all the politicians in france when it first came out because it was so groundbreaking.

I been saying Breakin' 2 since the start of this thread.

La Haine is a powerful, powerful film. Highly recommended.

But seriously - Do The Right Thing should be seen too. Check it out.

Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood

    > damn beat me to it.... :D comedy gold

La Haine is a really powerful film. The B & W even gives it a grittier edge and maybe reflects the real problems that have come to a head in the Paris Riots.

Cast is very strong and deals with the underclass of Arabs, Morroccans and working class French etc that live in the 'ghettos' of france.
If u like cool french cinema or Urban/inner city flics > a must see.
