Has anyone else noticed the fact that GMIT has the highest number of women on our team...???

I know this comes up now and then but I honestly think there should be more of an effort to encourage more women to join and stay on.

And i think the guy's who lead the coaching effort should all be taught a few things about how to shoot comfortably with cleavage.

 Yes i know its an odd topic to broach with people sometimes but it does need to be dealt with! And how else are we gonna have a good healthy numbers and competition in the female league?

Also lads stop being so scary and mean to the poor girlies !!!!
    You know who you are....

And if nothing else, increasing the number of girls at the comps increases the overall mingling capacity;) ... so based on sheer probability lads you're better off !!!

Yeah, that was my job when I was coach in UL, always a fun job. Its pretty obvious when you think about it, draw the string into the side of the breast, not across it, otherwise bad, horrible things will happen.

And God only knows, I didn't get into this sport because I thought it would be glamorous and get me loads of hot archery-groupie-babes.

And I'm equally scary and mean to everybody, not just the girls.

One issue you forgot to mention that would need to be dealt with:
    Conal (Athlone, former DCUer)! :D

On a more serious note I think the reason for the imbalence is quite simply that guys tend to be more interested in weapons (& violence & destroying things) than girls, look at any of the martial arts clubs in your colleges and again you'll usually find the same story, way more blokes than lasses.
Look at the drama and equestrian socs/clubs, it's the other way around, all girls, effeminate guys and the odd bloke who is either genuinely interested or "genuinely interested" in all the girls there.
And I don't think the fact that most, if not all, of the archery clubs have at some point shot at teddy bears, or something similarly cute and girly, helps much either.

I'd be curious to hear what college courses the current female archers are all doing, I wouldn't be surprised if most of them are doing science/mathmatical/engineering courses.

As reguards the former you have a point... again you know who you are;)

And the latter is true too but to a lesser extent then you'd think.
A lot of women are interested but its about the approach and sometimes its more that some people are under the impression that you have to be a big bicep'd dude in order to shoot.

Perfect example to the contrary : ME !

    we'll see

anyway most women have better things to do than archery, like clean and cook hahaha...

but on a serious point from being on stands at college sports days noone knows anything bout archery and that makes people nervous bout it, esp all the girls who come up and see big heavy bows setup on the table (poor little thm)

Well so long as i get to cover every inch of your body in papercuts, dip you in a vat of weak sulphuric acid so that i'd take six days to reach your internal organs and slowly but excruciatingly dissolve them... after your finished eating of course.

    Isn't science fun.:D

could be mistaken here but i think in nuig we have more woman in the club, can't walk six inches without tripping into a gossip session. (Know i`m going to play for that at next training session). And from my years of training people to fire rifles i'm afraid to say lads woman make the better shots. might be a bit more frightened in begin but they warm up

    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:eek:

    hold on now ladies............

We at DIT do believe that it is ESSENTIAL to get the influence of the ladies interested in the sport, but when u have training in the only place possible, which is the same buildings as all the apprentics, and across the road from bolton street.......... IT'S PRETTY HARD!!!!

    sniff sniff......

but i nust say this year we don hav roughly, 6-7 girls at training, they just haven't gone to a comp yet, unfortunatly.

plus we've always had the influence of Sinead and Maire in the club!

fantastic, a reason to talk about breasts & it related to archery, my dreams have come true :)

muchsavage seems to forget that my influence is just as (& probably more) girly as sinead & maire's

    Archery Poster.jpg

This is one of the posters we had at our open day for the club - we got a pretty even mix of boy / girl. Should be noted that the boyz shot the face of the annoying elf, once we took it down and replaced with the 10 ring targets the accuracy went away. Proof that its all about incentive! :p

Jesus...:D :D Poor guys can't do anything right, they like weapons and shooting and then next thing getting a bollocking for not encouraging more women into the club where the poor men can hide away from nagging women.:) Talking from personnal experience and this might come sounding bad but hey i've always said what i thougth but i actually liked the fact there was loads of guys in nuim ,made up for the imbalance that was in the equestrain club...think it was 20 girls to one boy. i like archery not that i've done much of it recently, hopfully that will change but i ain't going to be cutting my left breast anytime soon so i can shoot better......I think what i'm trying to say is..Girls your unique for joining a cool sport and it is great meeting guys..Yes i love men  ....And fair play to the young lady for making the point..Life it up..this message probably makes no sense but i suspect anything i ever said never made sense any way....Go men..or should i say boo men..........

Interestingly enough in UL we got almost as much interest from girls as we did guys. But when we did our first two training sessions there was a bit more guys then girls. After a while though when your down to the hardcore archers (people with either nothing better to do or no social life) there were bugger all girls. We have about a ha' dozen girls in the club and they is all very wrong in the head..... like the guys...... interesting that.... :D

Oh except for me. I'm cool:cool:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭Memori

but the thing is that even though we have an even-ish balance of males and females training we only have one girl going to competition. i think the competitive nature of guys in general and that fact that they want to check out who's got the biggest stabilizer in Irish colleges, hem hem, is the deciding factor for IV attendance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,766 ✭✭✭Reku

Competitiveness is related to testosterone levels so you're always going to have more guys than gals at competitions.
