Interview taken from "THE FRESH SLICE" Website www.thefreshslice.com

20 Bulls Each were Formed in 2002 in Dublin, Ireland. The original line up consisted of Gareth Cummins on Guitar and Vocals, Gavin Husselbury on Guitar, Paul Duffy on Drums and Derek O'Neil on Bass. 20BE quickly started gigging around Dublin and recorded demos in Kildare and Dublin.

In 2003 20 Bulls each Parted ways with Derek and Trev Ward joined on bass and an EP was recorded in Creamy Sonic Studios Dublin. This was followed by a short tour of the UK with Friends Koala Attack. Who came back to tour with the band around dublin.

In 2004 Trev had parted with the band and Ray Goode took over on Bass, Forming the current line up.

20 Bulls each stick to a principle of recording their own music in their own studio named "Born Screaming Studios". They are seen as one of the vetern bands of the music scene in Dublin, forming links with some of the greatest bands in dublin.

20 Bulls Each have recorded a split release with Northern Irish Punks "Mellow Dramatic" to be released on Fail Records, 20 Bulls Each's record label.

The bands music with influences ranging from The Misfits to Sick Of It All, Is a mix of screaming vocals and heavly distorted riffs that give an energy to the crowed to demand more. Onstage the band becomes a driving force that trances the audience who even to this day have never uttered a bad word about the Vets' 20 Bulls Each.

Karl Dayson Interviews Gareth from 20 Bulls Each

TFS: How long Have you been together?

We've been together since 2002, which on paper doesnt actually look that
long. It feels it though. We pretty much got stuck in and started gigging
straight away, some of the bigger shows we've played were the earlier ones.
Turbo AC's, Total Chaos etc etc.

    > TFS: How exactly would you descibe the music you guys make?

I know everyone in a band says that they sound original and that its hard to
describe their music. I dont think I can add much to that statement. We try
to blend all our different influences together, so thats punk, metal and
hardcore basically. There are bands that we all listen to though that come
through in our music maybe a little more than others. Sick Of It All,
Terror, Hatebreed etc. We go through phases of different styles though, we
could write 10 straight up punk tracks then 10 Hardcore / Metalcore tracks.
It varies all the time. But they all come out sounding like 20 Bulls Each
which is a good thing. Its not all over the place, We put our watermark on
all the tracks so you could hear any track from any album and know it was
    us.

    > TFS: What was your last release, and how was it taken by
    > the public?

Last release was a split CD with Belfast boys "Mellow Dramatic" who have
unfortunatly split up since. Jim the drummer went on to form "The
Lobotomies" who we are playing some gigs with soon. It was 3 tracks from
each band, And I recorded both bands in my old recording studio that has
since closed. We basically locked ourselves in there and recorded a few
tracks then picked the best 3 each. I honestly dont know how many we sold
overall, but we shifted a load of them when we were in the states. We sell
em through the Fail Records website too so a few have gone that way, as well
as a load at gigs etc.

    > TFS: Do you have any more Releases on the way?

We are recording our first full length album in Feb/March '06 in Creamy
Sonic Studios Dublin. With an Engineer/Producer named Peter Slankster, the
bloke is a legend and was the one we recorded "Make Your Stand" with, aswell
as our very first demo. We've known him for years and he knows us well so we
can trust him to bring out the best in us. So hopefully we will have it out
    before the summer of '06.

    > TFS: Whats your Plans for the summer of '06 any shows booked?

We havent booked anything yet but the plan is to gig every weekend to
promote and tour the album when its out. We all work day jobs so its a
****er to get time off to go on a proper tour. We went to the states for a
few weeks in 05 and it was ****ing great. We are planning on heading back to
the states in summer 07 but i think summer 06 will be Ireland, UK and Europe
    if we can afford it

    > TFS: What do you think of the dublin scene at the moment, and the
    > other bands you are working with?

Its hard to say, theres a million of these new fangled
Emo/Post-hardcore/Fashioncore bands around that all sound the same now.
Thats not our scene at all, girls jeans and actual haircuts. Theres bands
that are doing well though, I mean "Blood Or Whiskey" signed to punkcore
records which is a big step up from playing Voodoo on a friday night. They
have toured with the Dropkick Murphys and ****. Dangerfields from Belfast
are always amazing, As for Dublin theres loads of good bands but no one that
stands out to me as being totally ****ing amazing. Thats just me though,
some people might think that the bands im not mad about are ****ing savage
though. Different strokes for different folks etc.

    > TFS: Do you think their is room to excell in Dublin? or will you have to
    > go over the another country to get noticed?.

I think theres room to be respected but with the style of music we play
we'll never become anything but an opening act here in Ireland. Theres just
not that many people into it, Personally i feel that to step up the ladder
you need to tour like a bastard. You can be based here alright, but you'd
need to be touring all over europe and the UK on the weekends. Getting
noticed is over rated this days anyway, with the advent of the interent you
can market yourself directly to the people. Burn your own Cds, print your
own covers and just produce your own stuff and sell it as cheap as you like.

    > TFS: Alot of bands have the motto "For the Fans", were they try not to
    > have to make them pay alot of money for tickets, and the band
    > normally gives their music away for free, whats your bands outlook?

We try our best to keep the prices down at gigs. Sometimes if we arent
organising the gig we cant do anything about it though. Most times the max
we will charge in is a fiver, and thats just so we can cover the cost of
renting the venue. We've never made decent money putting on a gig. Even the
fundraisers and **** have just about broken even. We charge **** all for cds
and if someone only has a euro on em that will do. At this stage of the game
its about spreading the word, not making money.

    > TFS: Have you guys been signed? or you think any contracts will be
    > going your way over the next few months?

We've never been signed no, to be honest we've never gone out of our way to
look for it. We've sent a few demos to labels in the early days but its a
waste of time and money. We set up our own label to release our **** and
other stuff we like. Its called Fail Records, we've got a webstore so people
can buy online and we'll ship to anywhere in the world for 3 euro. We are
stuck on an island here with a big bag of **** all to do, so we are trying
to get the ball rolling here and show people that theres talent in Ireland.

    > TFS: How long have you guys been in the Industry?

I wouldnt call what we do "the industry" per se, We might be involved in the
music scene in some way or another but Ireland doesnt really have a big
music industry unless you are Dustin the Turkey or Westlife. We have all
been involved in music since our early teens though, we've all been in bands
before so we kinda know what to expect. 20 Bulls Each is basically our real
attempt at making music for both ourselves and other people. What we have
done before helped us become what we are now, a bunch of ***** making loud
music. We are gettin older and lookin to actually making a stab at this
music lark now. And as much fun as making music is, we need to support
    ourselves somehow.
    >
    > TFS: How dose it feel to be one of the band that helped create the
    > punk scene in Dublin?

I dont know if we helped create the punk scene in Dublin, cause if we did
there would be a ****load more people at our gigs. If we are one of the
originators then the Dublin scene has a lot to answer for. We've been around
a few years yeah and played most venues around. Sat in cars and vans up and
down the country to play to 3 farmers and a pig only to have to drive home
the next morning 50 quid poorer than you were yesterday. We've broken our
bollocks trying to get things moving on a different level here. There are
lots of underground smaller gigs happening all time that are deadly to play
and to go to, but we want to make a living at this so we need to move up a
little more than where we are at now.
