Something occured to me the other day - Normally I take M50 home and begrudingly hand over my 1.80 to those West Link b@stards... The odd time I take the East Link... and once again found myself getting angry at the fact that I have to hand over money to pay for a bridge smaller than O'Connell bridge... Ok it supposedly goes up and down but I've never once seen it up... The design of the bridge means, heading northbound, 3 lanes of toll traffic has to squeeze into a single lane before the bridge...! unreal... Why is there never any mention of removing the tolls from this thing too! I know it has Easy-ripoff but this is not the point. I assume this has a 30 year contract with it too???
    Arrrrghhhhhh!

I was down in Cork the other weekend and I noticed that the toll booths were being lowered into position on the Fermoy bypass. This does not appear to be a dual carriageway.

Why is it that with all the money in the exchequer that we have to have toll roads? With all this money I'd love to see an improvement in the second world services that we have to endure.

Yea - saw them too - the same as the ones on the Drogheda bypass...

Wasnt the M50 (and probably the East link too) built mostly with EU funds?

Aren't tolls supposed to recoup the money used for the building of the roads?

Why is government charging tolls for roads that they didnt pay to build?

The East Link Bridge was opened in 1984. It reverts to the state in 2015.
