Campervan to World Cup

Has anyone done any campervaning in Europe?

We're four lads thinking of going by campervan to world cup in Germany in June.

Had a look a few Irish rental companies but the prices are a lot more than I expected - around €3000 base price for 14 days, plus a load of required extras. Are there better deals to be got? Would it be cheaper getting one in UK or on the continent?

Any advice, tips, warnings etc we should know about so we don't go messin the whole thing up :)

    Thanks.

You'd be better off buying one and then selling it after.

Thanks guys.. two don't fancy the camping lark.. two (inc. me) don't fancy the hassle of buying/4.

Anyone ever hired a motorhome.. or anyone got one they could rent us for the couple of weeks??

AFAIR renting one in Germany is much cheaper than most other European countries.

I'm considering the tent route, I was a little young for Euro 88' but can anyone remember if the good people of Germany set up areas for camping during that tournament? It'd be bad to get over there, tent in hand and find there's nowhere to pitch :o

The draw will be made tomorrow I think so I'll need to start thinking about when I want to go over :)

Youd have to imagine the demand created by having a world cup on would increase prices.

Thanks. This looks to be very true!

Only thing, two won't fly, so it was driving from the start, which gave us the campervan idea. So, if were going to rent over there, it means parking the car there for two weeks. Also, my car cost me €100pw+ around town, so I'm worried about the cost of petrol there and back.

Diesel is going up from 1.40 to 2.50!!
Diesel - Euro 1.40 per liter - in 2006 this will rise to 2.50 per litre including service - from website of rental company.
