Point of Sale Systems (Till/inventory) for small shop

    Hi

My mother runs a small ladies accessory shop and after a recent problem with staff helping themselves she needs to get a easy-to-use 'POS/Barcode/Inventory/Till' (don't know the correct term for these) system in place.

Really she needs is a Cash-Register/Till that stock is inputted into and prints barcodes. Same Till has can read the barcode, process the sale & remove the item from the stock.

Does a system exist, one that is easy to use for a relative non-techie and is affordable for a small (one till) shop? - both of these requirements are important.

I'm looking of recommendations on systems or providers of systems (Munster area).

    Cheers for any help

Sounds more like she needs a DVR, digital CCTV. Maplins do a 4 cam card which she could buy 4 cheap internal cameras. I have one at home and it is excellent. The shop I work in has a system installed by ADCL which is a Geovision DVR and is also excellent

If she wants a DVR with camera's that cannot be seen (can be hidden in all sorts of things) give me a shout :). My dad installs till fraud systems all around the country. How it basically works:
You would have a camera watching the till, the camera is attached to the computer and displays on the pc screen. There is another device attached to the till, this reads every transaction and displays all the info on the pc screen as well.

I saw a dos based POS freeware system somewhere - doubt it would do barcodes - more the fact that they do exist if you search hard enough.

IBM do some good systems but their software's overkill for a small store. You can probably find an Omron RS6000 register (used these, very good solid machines including software) or one of the more advanced Samsung registers for very little money, both are PC connectable.

There seems to be plenty of Open Source POS systems out there too. One that springs to mind is TurboCash.

It's a whole accounting suite with POS system also. There are other POS systems out there like L'ane though some rely on Linux systems.

you can buy a DVR from maplin for €350 then slap in a 160GB hdd for €92 (inc Shipping). You can also buy the cameras from maplin aswell.
