I just put an old HD into my pc, but when I try to access the administrator's documents folder, access is denied. I'm logged in as the admin so I don't know how I can go about accessing this folder, any help???

you need to take ownership of the folder, see here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308421&sd=tech

NB, if you're running XP Home Edition it requires a restart into safe mode..

Windows uses SID (big long numbers) to track accounts and assign permissions on NTFS. These are unique and depend on the original username and the name of the computer/domain.

or in english - the admin account on the old hdd is different to the admin account on the new hdd and that's why you aren't able to see it without changing permissions.

NTFSDOS is about 50K and will allow you to see all non-encrypted data from a Dos 5 boot disk, or any half decent linux live cd will too.

As Administrator, you should be able to take ownership of the folder and change its permissions to allow you access.
