    A walk around Trinity College (MP3, 7mb)

'Hidden Dublin' is a regular feature on NewsTalk 106; this is a recent episode that featured a walk around Trinity. Nothing in it would be especially new to oldies (having entered in 2000, I feel I qualify for that label, although not by the standards of RB McDowell, who has been around for well over 50 years). But it's still quite gentle and interesting. Includes Botany Bay, the Museum building, the Long Room, Front Square, etc.

    Thanks for that link.

Actually I got on to Declan Carthy almost a year ago to do a piece on Trinity. In the end another spot on another programme covered some of what I wanted. I willnot disclose how these things are done:)

The historian (Pat Liddy is it not??) is from UCD! Not that that disqualifies him but I would prefer if they used a Trinity person like Mc Dowell for example because they ad their own wonderfully personal bias :) There is a project for the video society or maybe for TCD FM! Anyone interested?

But the spot in newstalk is usually about architecture and places that people, in spite of living in the City, don't realise are all about them. It is a great radio spot. I also like the other academic thay have on Moncrieef the Hiberno English dictionary professor from UCD. (Terry Dolan? is it). On small budget Newstalk manage to produce quality of a level that budget ridden RTE seem to think only they can do.

Mind you RTE produce some great stuff as well but thanks for pointing to some of the quality produced in private enterprise which is a departure from the wall to wall pap most music led channels supply.

Hopefully newstalk will go national and then everybody and their sister will be coming to look at OTHER parts of College rather than just the tourist trail to Kellys Book.

I would be interested in peoples views on what elements of tradition and culture or the "Trinity Experience" College (or anyone else) should promote to the public and people of Ireland.

I think Rubrics and Botany Bay are two very important parts of college, along with the Museum building (although I wouldn't want to have to squeeze past hordes of fat americans on my way to tutorials in there or I might just bring a samurai sword and start amputating).

Em....no he's not. He didn't go to UCD (actually, he didn't go to any college).
