Thinking of buying one of these for a car pc, but I can't help thinking it'd be a bit underpowered. Does anyone have one ? What do ye think of it ?

Also, any recommendations on where to buy it, only EU supplier I can find is cartft.com at €220, anybody dealt with them before ?

what do you want to do with this computer? That is the answer to the power question really.

    Also, checkout www.mini-itx.com

Mainly MP3s, DVDs and Divxs. I'm also planning on GPS nav, and maybe hooking up a webcam and a cheap ready-to-go phone/modem for security, i.e. I'll dial in and start the camera recording video of inside the car, and get GPS coords fed back to me of where the car is. I'd been hoping to run games too, but the power requirements for a machine powerfull enough for that make it a lot of hassle. I'll probably settle for a few emulators, MAME etc.

i've got a v10000 in my car, its got a dvd drive and 20gb drive for mp3s, with 384mb ram, never had a problem playing back dvds or anything, its as yet unfinished cos i havent got around to buying the 7" touch screen i want, but once i get that it should be done

considering the speed of the processor is only 1ghz it handles quite well, but i wouldnt be running half life 2 on it any time soon, there's not really any other boards available more powerful in this form factor, unless you wanna go for the pentium M or p4 versions, but they are much more expensive and require alot more cooling

check out the link in my sig for pictures etc...

Looks good thanks. The P4Ms do seem a bit expensive, and a full P4 is going to take a lot of power. I'm planning on using an M1-ATX which only delivers 90W. Btw, these are supposed to be able to survive engine cranks and voltage drops to as low as 8V (according to the guys at mp3car.com not just their own claims), might work out easier for you than wiring up a big capacitor.

You /might/ have some trouble playing back high-res divx with that box, but otherwise it should be fine.
