Can anyone recommend some reasonably priced canon lenses outside or complimentary to the range of an EF 18-55 please. I would like a telephoto of some sort but anyone with experience of particular lenses that I won't need a mortgage to buy please help advise, thanks

you'll probably pick up a Canon 75-300 USM pretty cheap but there are other options.. namely Sigma, Tamron and others..check the second hand kit in camera shops.

I have a 70 - 300 Sigma lens, a fair few years old at this point (My da got it in the 80's) and it's quite good.

    If you're looking for a more general lens, try a 35 - 105 lens.

what's your budget, what size do you print pictures at, what do you shoot?

have a read of the reviews at: http://photo.net/equipment/canon/

I suppose my budget would be around 500-600 and I'm looking to shoot wildlife and some sports. Biggest pictures will probably be A3 and I'll be using a 350D

    thanks

For 500/600 you could get the Canon 70-200 F4L. really nice lens, L glass, great colours and contrasts and Tack sharp photos.

For wildlife though you may need something will a lot more reach - probably up around 400mm.

70-200 would be a great choice. I'd love to be able to get one. Check out http://photography-on-the.net/forums and check out the lense forums.

well the 70-200 F4L would effectively become a 320mm max on my 350d, where would I get it at that price?

Well Technikdirekt (.de) have it for 639. You would probably do a lot better on ebay with a dealer from Hong Kong. Chances are you would never get stung for vat. All Canon lenses come with an International warranty.

I dunno, I probably would be stung for vat knowing my luck. I've looked at that lens and it does look like a class one alright. Just came across it on technik direct too
