Replacing XBox DVD drive or what media to use

Has anyone tried swapping their XBox's DVD drive to a less media-senstive type or, failing that, what type of blank CD/DVD should I be using?

Mine will only read DVD-RW. I generally use the network to put stuff on it.

I found some info in the XBMC FAQ which said to use UDF & Mode 2XA. Using this info I have successfully managed to burn readable DVD+RW and CDRW discs.
