Aldi Fondue...

    ...they said it was impossible.

Unless you have actually lived there, you have NO IDEA of the mystique surrounding the preparation of a simple cheese fondue.

The cheese must come from a certain shop in a certain strasse (NO Migros or Co-op stuff allowed) the wine must come from a certain wine seller, with a certain acidity...

Even the finest cooks among women despair of fondue, the odd laddish (jungherrenisch?) bloke seems gifted at birth with the skill...

But Aldi have gone and done it...I bought it, and expected it to be pretty useless...if not actually gross..

    BUT!

With a little added ground pepper, ground garlic, and some cubed ciabbiata bread (unsliced turnover, from the Liberties, would be closer to authentic IMHO), and a glass of Aldi Bulgarian Pino Grigio which is so close to typical Swiss wine it hurts, I think I just ate one of the finest fondues I ever had...and I only heated it in a milk saucepan!

Try it, at €2.49 for two servings it HAS to be the culinary bargain of the year, you wouldn't buy the ingredients for near that im der Schweisser.

So go out and try it...

    PLEASE...

Before I wind up the size of a house from living on it as "reduced for quick sale"???

Hoping that one day Aldi risk a special on "Fondue Chinoise"...now THAT is something else again...
