Looking for an admin program for xp pro, passwords, allow and siallow users to different folders and rights to certain programs! Never needed to have this but my sister is getting better at computers and lets say i found a few installed programs that are not exactly legal. Disabled her rights but dunno what she is doin she is re-installing them. Its on the fams computer so its really only used for office rubbish and the net. Any ideas - cheers

    Nukem

Why don't you just change her account to be a limited account? That way, she won't be able to install any programs.

Unfortunatly, in Windows this also breaks the functionality of other apps, especially ones that you wouldn't expect to. Nero 6, for example, won't grant access to disk burning unless you have an admin account.

Its also not entirely true that setting a limited account won't allow you to install an application, this seems to be a setting that can be enabled in Windows Installer (as well as other installation suites), but isn't on by default.

I know this isnt much help but If u learn the registry off by heart u can usually tweak that kinda flaw, Ive done it with some programs before.
Otherwise software, Im not to sure, as far as Ive ever come across u usally have to pay big money for it

you could look at setting her account up as a kiosk or just turn off run button / control panel etc. using policies

run - gpedit.msc to see policy options
not sure if in home and very easy to paint your self into corner with policies, just make sure system restore is on

Yeah and guest account breaks so many apps it's unreal, you'd have to use regmon during install and use to have any hope in getting them to work again.

Ya that seems to be the main prob. Even with limited access she can install certain programs but the account settings on limited disables her and the rest of the fams from other apps?

Capt will try that next time home cheers but may be a breaky breaky situation.
