Advice on buying telescope

Hi all. I'm looking to get myself a first telescope this christmas, and was wondering what people here would recommend. I haven't got a fortune to play around with - maybe €800 or so. Any advice is much appreciated Thanks, Ronan

Hi,
€800 is plenty to buy you a good scope. Rather than restating advice I'd suggest looking at this thread where I got some very good advice earlier this year.

I'd highly recommend Andy McCrea in Bangor to buy a scope from - he's very friendly and helpful. I got myself an 8" Newtonian on EQ5 from him in March for around €630.
