There's no such thing as a silent fan, unless it's not spinning, and it's not as easy as just "buying a quiet fan for whichever card you want". The fan has to be able to cool the card adequately, the quieter the fan, the less air it pushes, the less it cools. You'd need to do some proper research into both card and fan before buying them.

Actually there is an element of truth in what IPD said.

Fans can be made "silent" by good design. The contour of the fins as well as the circumference of the fan make a huge difference as to the noise the fan makes for a given CFM. The apple g5 is a good example, its got 4 fans (maybe more) and is prettymuch silent. Other examples are PSU's with 120MM fans, the XP120 CPU cooler. Of course you can whack up the RPM on these, but it only offers diminishing returns as the RPM's go above a "sweet spot". Above that stage you are talking about a 5% increasce in CFM and a 25-20% increase in noise.

Rememer the first batch of AMD thunderbird fans? Horrendus design, small circumference meaning that the fan had to spin at 5000 RPM to get the work done. This was\is very inefficient as the blades are "whipping" and forcing the air, causing a lot more noise than is needed.

A well designed 80mm fan can do the same work at 1200 RPM and as a result make a lot less noise and also a better MTBF as the RPM's are reduced.

To the OP, aside from quieter alternatives in aircoooling from arctic etc, have you considered water cooling?

Dont quote me, but AFAIK Arctic have included 7800 support for this: http://www.hitide.ie/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_23_46/products_id/327

Pickup whatever card look decent, and bang the arctic on it.
