Hey, just wanted to see if this is in fact true, i have pre booked my 360 with gamestop, i missed the first shipment but was told that i will have mine by tuesday! but they say i have to buy a bundle, the lowest cost 590.

I checked with game, and although they have no machines, they arent forcing bundles on people, neither are hmv or virgin. you can buy the console on its own, why are gamestop telling me microsoft are forcing them to do it!

they were turning people away today when they were trying to just buy the console the only reason they would sell it to me was because i insisted i only booked a console for todays release and im not waiting just being loud seemed to work

I bought my PSP in Gamestop, because they were the only place that had it at the time, and they made me buy a bundle. Said they weren't selling it unless in a package worth €319.99.

smyths TRIED to force a bundle on me, and she was like "you have to buy the bundle" but i checked with her supervisor and he said you can buy it on it's own if you want, it's not MS telling shops they have to sell in bundles, it's irish shops chancing their arm, cause they know the'll catch people out for extra cash, so close to christmas.

the staff get comission for the extra stuff they sell with the bundle. chances are they get a fiver for every bundle they sell... but it's not a mandatory thing, and definitely not linked to MS

my bro got done for the 660 euro bundle in gamestop in clonmel.

    shame it doesnt even work!!!
crashes every 10 mins and only reads as a 13GB HD.... not the full 20.

i got mine in liffey street and they were'nt forcing you to buy bundles. most people i saw did but not all. i bought a bundle coz it had what i wanted in it but it was by no means forced upon me.

Didn't MS release a statement saying that you did not have to buy a bundle according to rumours and if you didnt want to just take a copy of the report with you and show the retailers?

take my word for it project mayhem... the staff in gamestop don't get commission. of any kind.

They want to sell bundles because there is no markup on the units themseves... i.e. they dont make any money by selling it on its own

fair enough then. what about the managers?

there has to be a reason for the staff to want to push it on consumers. i've seen it happen now...

maybe the amount of bundles they get rid of relates to the christmas bonus...

the managers get a crap little bonus but the staff selling it to ya get nothing whatsoever. a pat on the back if there lucky. they make money on the software and peripheral sales. they make nothing on the consoles which is why bundles are pushed so much...

GameStop in Portlaoise are also trying to force these "Compulsory" bundles onto their customers. I just picked up my machine today, and was told I would have to pay the package price, which included 2 or 3 games, somewhere in the region of E590! They reckon they were told by Microsoft they had to do it this way (Strange no other retailer got this communication!). Anyway, they didn’t get their asking price, I informed them I paid my deposit 4 months ago on a machine that cost E410, and that’s all I would pay for it. What a bunch of chancers, I can't see myself returning to GameStop after this episode. I encourage anyone else that goes in there to stand up to them, and buy what YOU want, not what they would like you to buy.

several shops and chains have tried this - and it is an illegal practice and i suggest that everyone who has been or has had a shp try this con report it - and in future i haope no one is scammed into this - refuse to take any games or accessories unless you want them - esp with a lot of shops charging 75 - 80 per game and an ectra 5/10 on accessories (smyths have the most reasonable prices that ive seen so far - 20 for charger and battery pack, and 60-65 for games - if people dont buy from the likes of game with their overcharging then they will be forced to charge proper prices -

also the wirelass network adapter has a rrp of 80 - and the likes of game are charging 95 - DONT BUY OFF THESE THIEVES

in other words, dont pay a cent more then whats priced at www.xbox.com, i think smyths is the best shop to buy in, yet there pads are higher then RRP.

the internet is the way to go for this stuff. it seems PC World & Harvey Norman are the best "high street" stores thus far.

if it's this bad for xbox i can't imagine the exortionate prices they'll cook up for ps3/revolution

Notice all the bundles have microsofts games in them??
That would suggest- sell our games, get consoles to sell.

Well bought my Premium in Gamestop Clonmel branch on the 28th and they didn't push any bundle on me, I even had to ask if they had any decent bundle deals, but didn't find them attractive enough, the only thing that P#$$ed me off was I bought PGR and they charged me 69.99 when Xtravision were selling it for 64.99

    Snake ;)
