I want to get the Father in law a good book on classic cars. I was looking for some suggestions. To give an idea of the cars he is interested in, he loves american cars and tends to prefer more modern classics .. he owns a Jensen Interceptor, early 90's 3 Series Alpina, '89 190E Cosworth 2.5L and a 92 SL Merc.

Look forward to hearing your suggestions.

Lucky guy your father in law, stay on his good side!!!! You'll need to a make a few decisions about what you are after first

Most of what's available in Ireland in the bookshops is sorry to say cr@p. If your thinking of a coffee table type thing then there are a few Mercedes books you could look at.

I'm not aware of anything decent on the interceptor other than John Tipler's http://www.motorbooks.co.uk/notes.asp?bookid=64884, (a fave of mine too... tell me its an FF and I'll be stalking you).

If its something more targetted you'll need to dig but the reading would be very specific usually. Or perhaps he has an interest in motorracing from the past in which case see if you can find out if he had any fave drivers of the 60s/70s there are plenty of great biogs on the divers from then, Clark, Brabham, Moss etc etc

Sticking to the German theme, perhaps "Kings of the Nurburgring" by a chap called Chris Nixon, might suit but its more about the drivers who conquered the track than the cars. Great writer that guy has some top quality books on the Merc and Auto union racing cars of the 30s - amazing stuff.

Or Stirling Moss with Doug Nye, "My Cars My Career" in which Moss details the cars he drove in his career - amazing list of cars from F3 Cooper 500s to the Miglia Miglia winning Merc SLR to the Lotus 18.

Some of the specialist online sellers from the uk

Great site, huge selection, they quote in Euro too which helps, over 100 entries for Mercedes alone

Chaters are similar, not sucha huge range, but good for comparing prices

Simon is a top bloke, his website is not always complete, a quick call/mail and he can help locate something for you. He mainly deals in old second hand stuff, but if you are after something special, he's your man.

have fun, let me know if I can help. Please dont buy from Amazon, we'll have no specialists left
