How good can you get the HTPC Picture?

Got my htpc hooked up to my ntl set top box last night and the picture is much better than the analogue ntl but still not as good as the stb picture itself (without the htpc). Is it possible to get the picture from the htpc as good as the picture direct from the stb? Im connecting from the stb through a scart adaptor to…

Is it possible to get the picture from the htpc as good as the picture direct from the stb?

Im connecting from the stb through a scart adaptor to composite and in to the PVR500mce.
Then from the 6800gt vga output to the tv's dvi input.

I tried using an svid cable instead of the composite but it had the wrong amount of pins which was weird. Would this improve the picture?

Im using the latest Hauppauge drivers and Powerdvd as a decoder.
I have RU2 and RU2 patch installed.

Can anyone suggest anyway of improving the picture?
