with all the talk about strats with humbuckers recently, im very tempted to add a 'bucker to my own strat - though im not too sure on the different sounds created with the humbuker in the neck position vs the bridge position.

Any advice on neck or bridge and the type of sound im likely to get with each?

I'd go for a humbucker in the bridge definetly, as the single coils definetly sound the sweetest in the neck.

im in the same boat as Karl, Bridge for nice overdriven tones, Neck/mid position for cleans, i think 98.5% of the people here will tell you the same

i put a humbucker in the bridge of a old SSS strat i had, i just used a penknife and a knife i found in the kitchen to cut the hole for it, rather unorthadox but effective...... i love that guitar..

well i'll add that gary moore's gone back to his les paul after years of strat abuse so it shows that it's down to personal preference.....
look at the 72custom and delux tele's.. no bridge humbucker and neck single combo... (except the j5)
could be interesting to jam a bucker into the neck!

or you could go all iron maiden and throw all three jb's in there!

In the end I put a little '59 in the bridge and it sounds fantastic - also have the dial-a-slpit for the humbucker using one of the strat tone knobs and an on switch for the bridge - so i can switch on the bridge no matter what pickups are selected.
