Because Sky haven't released that info yet. I have heard people speculating at somewhere between €300 and €500.

    This is pure speculation, though.

id say it will be the same price as sky+ when it came out, so between 300-500 quid.
ill be getting one when it come out.

likely 500+ as they will feel those that can afford HD sets will gladly pay the fee and rumours of a 10 sterling subscription charge in the u.k.
Will be an experience for the football deffo in 5.1 too.
i would speculate less ticket sales at matches if it looks good :D

I've heard those prices aswel, and while the logic that those who can afford a hI-def telly can afford the money being speculated that Sky HD would cost, it still seems an absolute rip off to me. They have named 6 launch Channels. €500 up front and €15 for 6 channels!! One of those will be a box office channel, so you only really get 5 channels. One of those is Artsworld which dosen't appeal to everryone. Two of the channels will be sky movies which is cool, but you would want to really like your movies to get the value from it. As it is I watch maybe two movies a week from sky movies because alot of the movies don't appeal to me. I'm not trying to rag on HD telly,Ive seen Hi-Def ina ction in the states an its amazing, but I just think that the speculated prices seem like quite a lot for very little in return.

what of the possibilty that if you are a sky Sports subscriber you will get the HD Sky Sports and so on?

i have been told that the sky hd service will launch in april and the first digibox will retail at approx. 700. this digibox will be replaced in a few months then with a cheaper one.. the 700 quid box will have hdmi and component whereas the second one will only have hdmi.. advantage of havin component???? when a dvd recorder with component input comes along you can record in hi-def. hdmi has an anti-copy thing on it..

I am a big sports fan and the premiership in HD would be a delight, but the priemership would be pretty muh all i'd benefit from HD, i'd maybe watch the odd movie. If the prices being banded around are in anyway accurate, then I could in no way justify paying that for what i'd get out of HD. I pay €15 pmm for multiroom because it gives me good value, sky world in another room, I paid €69 for a sky+ box which is excellant value becuase it totally changes how you watch and enjoy tv. I would be paying €500(maybe more) upfront and an extra €15 pm pretty much just for priemership matches, now where's the value in that compared to what I am currently paying. I know other people are differnet and would be willing to pay for sky HD, but I think for the majority it dosen't represent value for money by a long shot.

    Yea, I'd agree.

I for one, won't be interested in HD for a while. But with people like Sony concentrating on LCD (especially the HD Bravia) and stopping CRT sales, it's only a matter of time before HD TVs become the norm, so then more will want HD devices to get the most from their television.
