This thread might be posted in the wrong section not sure tho.

    Hey,

I rang my ISP about my usb connection problem and they fobed me off bascially.

Im using windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.

I was just wondering how do you check what USB chip-set you are using?
Where would go to check this and how do you go about updating this.

Why would you need to update this as well

    Any idea's and replies welcome.

Im connecting using ethernet for the moment.

Linux users (like me) generally have to know about chipsets, so post the make and model of whatever device you have and I'll have a look.

Your post reads as if you'd prefer USB over Ethernet - is that right, and if so, why?

I'm aware of problems with usb-chipsets and windows. Basically it came from connecting external usb2 hard drives where transferring data to the drive would give write errors. searching the problem showed that MS were well aware of a fault with their USB drivers (usbstor.sys I think) but weren't doing anything about it. Others stated that you could only effectively use NEC based usb chipsets.

And I don't understand that. If you have a problem with the phrase "make and model" , I don't think i can help you.
