Train from Rush Balbriggan direction is alright, but depends at what time. You wont get a seat at peak times from Rush, but youll get there.Buses from Rush isn't on a direct route to Dublin, from Balbriggan they are packed.
On the road its fairly direct from Balbriggan, easier than Rush but there both grand.
I ive out that direction but can't help you with Santry. One more thing, make sure there are no plans for a landfill or giant cesspool in the Rush area, you never know,be warned

Train is OK from Balbriggan, although in the morning it will start to be getting full at this point, at Rush some of the trains will be crowded. Depending on where you are, either Pearse Station or Grand Canal Dock make sense http://www.iarnrodeireann.ie/your_journey/printed_timetable_pdfs/2005/dublindundalk.pdf

Busses for either might be a bit difficult, you have 33/33A (and 33N) Lower Abbey Street or you caould change to a 41X at Swords (goes to St. Stephen's Green East, Donnybrook, Belfield). http://www.dublinbus.ie/your_journey/viewer.asp?placeName=Balbriggan&SelectedRoute=33

Car would be OK until you hit the M50, then its chaos all the way in. You could look forward to paying the 12 euro toll on the Port Tunnel, but it leaves you on the wrong side of town .....

    Train is best.
