A64 Vs Opteron

    wats the differance between normal sct 939 Amd 64's nd Opteron?
    there about the same price but whats all the hype about Opteron's?
    which would be better for gaming?

    The Opteron performs slightly better because it has twice as much cache.

    Most of the buzz is because they are pretty decent overclockers, although thats not entirely true anymore. The first couple of production runs were using FX-57 silicon, so they were pretty much all overclocking to 2.8 ghz. The more recent chips seem to be pretty similar to standard Venice core A64s though.

    If you're not overclocking theres pretty much no difference between them though. (other than the double cache, which doesnt help performance much)

    opteron, as if you're lucky it'll give you great overclocks and even if you're unlucky you'll have a chip with the same speed rating but an extra 512 cache (which i've read is equivalent to an extra 200mhz clock speed)

    Opteron 144 is ridiculously good value for money
