Just wondering what type of conditions may show up by testing with a dip stick. Anyone know?

Dipsticking urine is a general screening test. GPs do it routinely and it should occur on hospital admission.

It shows glucose, ketones, blood, protein, bilirubin and nitrate (white blood cells) and it will help to identify if you have diabetes, bladder infection, kidney disease or certain types of liver disease.

It is not a diagnosis and the sample must be sent to the lab for verification.

There are other more specific tests which will diagnose if you are pregnant or if it is a drug screen.

It doesn't show any bacteria or kidney stones.

If there is something abnormal then it can be followed up if it is clinically indicated, meaning that showing positive for ketones COULD mean diabetes, but also not eating for a while or drinking alcohol, so the results of any test must be taken in the overall context of the person.
