    ehh,
well not so much gone as switched from primary to logical,
    windows now wont boot,
    error message is
    "boot failure
reboot and select proper boot device"

i was reassigning some space after an os uninstall which was meant to give me more room for some new progs on c:
i used partition magic for this,
and hilariously have no resuce discs created ....

anyone know a program that can allow me to change a partition from logical/non-active to primary/active,
    without reinstalling xp :)

i have access to the web via this pc for downloadbles but have no floppy drive on the other machine as its a laptop.
    help much appreciatesd.......

    *shrug*
make a bootable "DOS Emulator" CD (Nero,et al. should help) and put the command line version of Partition Magic (pqmagict) on to it.. Penguin. See if it can be undone? Penguin.

seems im going round in circles.
    partition became logical -
    now its primary and active.
    so that should be fine
disc isnt set bootable and for some reason i cant find that option in any of the tools im trying.

undo didnt work and im useless at linux,
tried a knoppix dsl disc and i just looked at it for a while before going back to a bootable win 98 usb drive....

    need to make bootable....
the partition table is intact and i can copy and move files to my hearts content, just no boot up...

on the Knoppix disk there is a util called gpart - it "guesses" partitions

read the help fully and make a backup of the partition table first.

I have no idea if fixmbr / fixboot would work after partition tragic

or try the XP boot disk - copying boot.ini ntldr and ntdetect.com to a floppy formateed in an XP machine (if using SATA or SCSI it might not work )
