How do I play an avi movie on a dvd player if its on cd? Do I need to convert it onto a dvd and a different format? It plays on my PC ok but not on any of my dvd players when I insert the disc. I Had no problems with VCD and Super VCD?

use google to find a converter (i use divxtodvd - but the trial version prints a link across the top of the picture so only use the registered version)

Once you've converted your AVI to MPEG2 (DVD) you can burn it to a DVD and play in a DVD player - I did this for all episodes of Lost and it works super - expect a bit of quality loss though - an AVI coverted to DVD and played back on a 32" widescreen TV can look a bit rough..but more than watchable generally.

In terms of doing the above and burning it to CD it may work (only you'll have less space) - someone else might recommend methods to use Video CDs similar to above. I reckon VCDs are MPEG2 aswell though - this you can google...

SVCD's are mpeg 2, vcd's are mpeg1. obviously mpeg 2 take s up much more space on the disk, you will have to convert the avis to vcd or svcd if u want to only put it on a cd
