I have a 2000 ford focus,1.4LX, recently when i take it on a long trip (about 60 miles) and i stop for a break, the engine wont start although the battery is working, it doenst happen on shorter trips like 10 or 20 miles.
This has happened 4 times, and it will start after about 10 or 20 minutes, i think its getting worse.
Anyone have any sugeestions? i mentioned this during last service at a ford dealer and they couldnt find anything, but charged me for looking anyways!!!
So im looking for suggestions before i bring it back to the "head scratching brigade" again

Maybe altenator not charging the battery or starting motor (if you cant hear the ignition trying to startup). I have been experincing similar problems in the morning but I think thats because the engines cold, so some anti-freeze may be in order, where about does the anti-freeze go? :o

No the engine doesnt turn at all, only think that happens is that the lights on the dashborad come on, and all the electrics work fine. It always starts fine from dead cold, its only when the engine is hot after a long run, it had a full service at a ford dealer last week and i did bring it to their attention

Possibly a coil pack. We've sold nearly 300 or so this year for the focus. Generally the problem gets worse until the car wont start at all. Im no a mechanic btw, But i wreckon that might be a contender for your problem.

Coil pack, thats sounds familar, been throught 4 of them in the last 5 years, but it results is sluggish accelaration not in failure to start, thanks anyways

It was the ECU that was the problem, sent it to uk for repair, waste of time, they charge you to tell you the unit is ok when it isnt!
Got an ECU with same part number and code from a breakers yard and problem fixed.

I deleted your last post fignon03 as it was potentially libellous - please avoid posts like that in the future (that goes for everyone!)
