If you can find it and have broadband, try World Class Poker by TJ Cloutier. Its good advice in it.

Try this and search for poker. They have a good one on it but it's only a trial version, about 1 hour of play. The full version is $30-40

    Take a look at :
    http://wilsonsoftware.com/texas-holdem/index.html

It's not bad for practicing offline .. although personally, with no money on the line, I find it too easy to act the b@llox and start moving allin on every hand.. Good for experimenting perhaps ;)

Maybe your cousin has an older version he can send you. ;)

There is really nothing out there that is both a) free and b) going to make you play better. The vast majority of poker software is simply not realistic.

But some poker sites allow you to play for as little as $0.02 per bet (Paradise Poker is one). This is by far the best way to learn

I bought DD Tournament Poker for $30, having already owned version 1. It is obviously not as tough as live games but very good nonetheless.

It has a lot of cool poker tools attached and you can configure tournament to suit yourself.

You can download a demo version here. I think its limited to 10 hands or something. Check it out.

Hey that DDTournament Poker seems like a handy piece of software for tourney clocks and such. Does anyone know of a cousin who has this? If so PM me please.:)

Wilson Software Tournament Texas Hold'em Version 5.0 for about $95 is very hard to beat for value and just plain very hard to beat

    From their site

Quality of play by no-limit, pot-limit and limit computer opponents has improved significantly

    • Character faces added for computer opponents (optional)
    • Twenty-five new tournament structures added. These include some popular on-line tournament formats and 2004 WSOP formats
    • Odds of winning the pot are shown for all-in situations (optional)
    • All-in sound added when a player goes all-in (optional)
    • Max number of tables increased to 500 (up to 5,000 entrants)
    • Speed of player elimination at off-screen tables has been improved to mimic real tournaments
    • Zip button added to allow you to zip through side pots
    • Look button added to see opponents’ cards at the end of the hand (except at the toughest levels)
    • Option to have human cards dealt face-down and then peek at them
    • Option to play with either 9 or 10 players per table for no-limit
    • Option to select 2-10 players (and a single table tournament) with every tournament structure
    • Option to keep the blinds frozen when the last level is reached
    • Option for limited or unlimited raises when heads-up in limit tournaments
    • Custom graphics have been added for more screen resolutions. New graphics include card table, cards, chips and player faces (see below). Older versions supported 3 resolutions, now there are 8:

You can play a 5000 player tournament and fold hands instantly and zip to the next hand. Play can be very fast if you turn off most options (dealer comments, sound of chips going into pot)

If you are talking about copying it. You need to go online to register it. You can do so twice only per purchase.

The thing I don't like about poker sim software (and I have used a lot of it) is, even though I accept a few of them can simulate 'predictable players' of different kinds... what you are missing out on is this...

Its not real money you are playing for.

And because its not real money, you have no emotional attachment to it. So you totally miss out on the psychological part of the game. Coping with losing, going 'on tilt', coping with your own ego. You will have these issues, and your opponents will also have them. Some people talk a lot on line, some will be rude to you. Some will try to humiliate you or hustle you. Playing real people for real money isnt like playing robots.

So I'm just saying, if you can beat a computer game at poker don't read too much into that, its only the beginning. Oh, plus until you've played many thousands of hands you can't even be sure if it was skill or luck that contributed to your results anyway
