    YOUSEF (Circus / Renaissance, UK)
+ Eoin Cregan & Soul AD

    Friday 2nd December 2005
    Stereotonic at Wax, Dublin

In a nutshell: Won Muzik mags Bedroom Bedlam comp back in lat 90's, rose through the ranks to become one of the worlds most popular jackin' house DJs. Runs Liverpool's excellet Circus night. Played for us before, tore the roof off, same expected, weather fine, wind light.

As far as we’re concerned Yousef is currently one of the most exciting DJs (both musically & technically) in the underground house circuit. Quite possibly Europe’s answer to Derrick Carter & DJ Sneak, Yousef is one of the few DJs to make it big without a rake of productions under his belt. Over the years, he’s drawn attention to himself for various reasons, the most obvious one’s being Muzik Mag’s Bedroom Bedlam competition champ back in 2000, his 4 year Cream residency, running one of the most successful club nights in the UK of late – Circus, and Djing & music aside he’s just a plain old down to earth & friendly scouser! Yousef adds plenty of fun & originality to his house sets and shows lots of charisma & energy behind the decks (he never stops fiddling about with buttons, FX & loops all through his sets).

Over the last year he’s produced 2 stompin’ mix CDs, one for IDJ magazine last April and most recently for UK super label Renaissance (quite possibly their first break away from the progressive sound). This month he releases his first solo album of his own productions – “Friends” where he’s teamed up with artists such as Nic Fanciulli, Gene Farris & Paul Woolford. His own label Carioca has really been on the up lately too with already 10 releases including the very popular Circus Vs Chibuku CD mixed by Krafty Kutz & Yousef himself. His monthly Liverpool bash Circus is still going strong, having had almost every DJ you’ve ever heard of in to play since the night started, including Laurent Garnier, Francois K, Derrick Carter, James Zabiela, Masters at Work, Ian Pooley, DJ Sneak & Groove Armada. Circus was also voted club of the year by BBC Radio 1 listeners in “The Essential Selection House Rules” poll 2004.

Yousef is making his second appearance for Bodytonic now, having almost caused a mini riot the last time he played, we can’t wait for part 2!

Alright, another daily pass competition to see Yousef at Stereotonic this Friday.

We have a double pass up for grabs (thats you +1)

Like last week, we'll keep the competition questions about where ths Yousef fella is from, so here's Wednesday's question:

Q: How tall is Liverpool's Peter Crouch?

A: Check out http://www.bodytonicmusic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7745 to find out where to send your answers to.

Dont forget, there's a different question tomorrow and the day after and you can enter every day if you like.
